i was talking with a friend on the weekend about dylan's sad-eyed lady of the lowlands... it's absolutely beautiful, and there are apparently a few ideas out there as to what he's singing about, his opinions and mixed feelings towards catholicism, his wife, etc. i'm wondering if anyone has any input or opinions to share..?
Yes, that is a great song. I am not sure what his songs are about, I just like the way they sound. Often times I feel that Dylan's lyrics are less about meaning and more about the images and moods they evoke.
"sad-eyed lady of the lowlands" is about sara. a lot of people seem to debate this but all you have to do is look at the lyrics of his later song "sara": "I can still hear the sounds of those Methodist bells, I'd taken the cure and had just gotten through, Stayin' up for days in the Chelsea Hotel, Writin' "Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" for you. Saaaaaraaaaaaaa, Saaaaaaaaraaaaaaa".......and so on now I sure hope there's nobody out there that's wondering what "sara" is about
