want to welcome ozzydread as the new mod to help cleanup things riound here (sherriff ozzy)
1st off, fighting has always been against the rules, so trying to start fights (not just odffering differing opinions but being downright confrontational or ruude) will at least get your post deleted.
second and this is where you all come in
we are talking about cleanning up alotta messiness here in one of a few ways (and could use some volunteers to assist in the process)

we want to either combine alot of threads wich will cause them to be non sequential and lil hard to fiollow up till the point where they werre combined but would serve the purpose of having all the info in 1 place .. or create new threads and search through old ones quotting the most relevant info

we would like to combine each method into its own discussion instead of 1000 backcomb threads just 1 either combined or with the best info quoted and discussed and so on for each method, and the same gopes for products (shampoos and other cleaning stuff) tams and headgear beads andaccessories..styling options u name it.. the typical subjects cleaned up and all in 1 place

we arent set on how to do thiss yet wether combinninbg or collecting quotes so we'd love the options to be discussed here
but once we are set on the plan we will need ppl willing to search throug tons and tons of threads either ixdentifying the relevant threads or extractting the most important info.

so what do ya all thinks the best way to do this?

well if we combine we just need ppl to take a subject and search for relevant threads (like all backcombing threads all dandruff threads all crochetting and so forth) but if we just extract the most relevent posts on each subject we need ppl to go through em and paste in quotes in new threads (without bias based on personal feelings bout the poster..only the quality of the info should matter)
that may be harder thouigh since theres alotta subtkler differences in opinions so maybe we should try to include almost all relevent posts and just leave out the irelevant ones (like discussions of bands or whats in ppl's bedrooms tossed in the middle of threads bioyut backcombing)

if we get alot cleaned up then only individual updates would be outside of these well organized threads on each subject

Ok, well if you need someone who's not biased I can help. Assign me something, and I'll be glad to wade through all the threads for relevent info. I have the next two days off, so maybe I can make some progress.

thx SE, well, the plan was to gather all the information and advice given over the years and organize it for easy reference. other than the obvious benefits from this it will mean a cleaner forum.

I would also like to show both sides of the fence when it comes to using wax in a positive manner. This doesn't mean you can't debate the issues in threads but i would like to see less personal attacks against people, keep it on topic and on the issues being debated.

As of now I'm collecting the info out of the 100+ pages of threads, both words of wisdom and photos that are still working along with the author/photographers' user names. Once collected it will be sorted and compiled into relevant threads so it is easy to brows.

I would like current members to post there input on the idea, both what you think of this project, any other things you would like to seen happen and your own ideas to better the dread forum.

    thank you, peace.

I think that we should boot off some of these drama starters personally. ALL they do is bring drama everywhere.

As of now i will be deleting posts that contain personal attacks. those who continue to attack people will be warned and if proven to have an uncontrollable urge to abuse people, then i will consult with the admins and arrange for a temp ban. permanent bans will only be used as a last resort.

:) All sounding good so far.
One reason I prefer this dread forum to others is the layout.
In other forums where the different dread topics are separated out into smaller sub-foums each containing several threads, it's means you can't just have the one-page overview you get here. The sticky posts keep topics in one place, but are still single threads, so you can still see at a glance where there are new posts. I hope it will stay that way in structure.
    :)

Mmm sounds good to me ^^

Maybe if we have "Quick reference" stickies for dreading methods and maintenance, then threads in those about different methods and FAQ's for each? I dunnno if that'll work but I'm sure you get the idea xD

Then keep the discussion threads in the main window like amy said?

Maybe you could add stickies on "everything you need to know about dreads". That way we don't get tons of threads from month old dreadies wondering why no progress is being made?

so I'm confused what are we going to post threads about? if all the information is compiled to just a few threads then there will be no reason to a questions. I'm all for it. just wondering how it will work exactly.

Just a few comments and questions.

(1)NOOBS. Noobs will always be noobs, it's a fact. Some noobs look past FAQ's and search engines, etc, to get the info they want. What will you do about unnecessary thread-making? Will the threads be deleted? Deleting threads can delete content.

(2)STICKIES. A front-page full of stickies is annoying.

(3)SEARCH FUNCTION. A good search function can help reduce repetitive threads. The search function for this site should be located in a more visible area as opposed to having scroll down the screen to find it. This is a site-wide deal, though, not solely relevant to this forum.

(4)CONSOLIDATING THREADS. Sounds like a very subjective, daunting task! I don't really understand the point of consolidating threads, quotes, and pictures, which is essentially modifying or deleting the past. What's in the past on page 72 is in the past on page 72. A basic FAQ seems to be a much more efficient task and can keep people from getting upset that their posts/threads are considered less important than the next forumer's even though the posts/threads may have the same content.

And now for the "Thank You!" for coming to the aid of this forum. It's been in serious need of moderation recently.

You're right. I wonder this as well. The point of a forum IS discussion...being able to talk about and share experiences and ideas.

i agree, the forum works as a whole, its just the stupid fights that go further than just a difference of opinion

dont turn this thread into a pile of strictly organised crap lol
