So I've seen mention of it in a few threads here but not much beyond the name and a breif description of what it is. Figured I'd post the link for the organization in case there are individuals not yet tied down by the Conventional restraints of todays society who may currently be restricted by location from enjoying the art of gardening or small scale sustainable agriculture. http://www.wwoofusa.org/index.html If you have the time on your hands and the desire to travel a bit and get hands-on guided experience, this would be a good place to start looking for the opportunity. :cheers2:
yeah this could stand to be stickied... ive bought my wwoof booklet and come spring, id like to have a few destinations set up. who else is doing this? btw... when your saying wwoof, do you actually say "woof"? lol dumb question but im just wondering what people call it.
i woofed in '05 but it was more of a prison, the kind with mean wardens. will be off again this spring for a more permanent farming thing. can't hardly wait!
oh hai stalk (this is wanderin_blues btw) got any experiences to share? ive worked on plenty of farms, but never in the wwoof context. ps, come hang with us on dt....
no way! I've been in love with you for so long. gah it makes so much sense. I've been to a couple ashram/organic farms in Cali, as well as a very experimental place up in Willits, Ca. all good experiences.
sexy stalk... youll always have a place in my heart. hmm cool cool. ive wanted to hit up cali, but im going east for the time being. got a man in NY im planning to visit as a matter of fact (so im afraid you missed your chance ). you know jared right? (goatboy1186 from way back when). oh, internet love... oh hey have you seen my mode of transportation? (shorty bus) if not, i gotta show you. shes gonna be a sweet ass road trip machine.
I thought about doing this. any recomendations for a good place to... woof? i met a few people who did this at some different communities. come on spring.
I have a friend who owns a farm down the road from me and she said there are all types of mostly young people who do this. She said some have plenty of farming experience some have none. Some are very motivated individuals others are lazy and just want a place to stay for free. So it all depends on the people too. She tries to get someone motivated whos interested in farming. These people want to learn and do a better job obviously than the people who just want a free place to stay and or see the world and dont care about organics movement and farming and buying local. I think it would be a good experience for all the farmer and the wwoofers. As they both learn from it and get to experience new things. I say go for it. As soon as I get up some intern living quarters here on my farm I plan on looking for wwoofers to come out to my place for them to help as well.
Eh', it worked back when I posted it. If some Admin could be kind enough to send me the password to my first account I'd be happy to edit the O.P.
