how do you all think the cast looks in the movie..tough shoes to fill...they are all young and new...just hope they give me the same experience as i had with the past ones
I'm warming up to them... I've been following this film's progression for some time now on a sci-fi blog and my first reaction was revulsion. I don't know what changed... perhaps my acceptance that they weren't going to change it and I still wanted to see it? I'm not all that excited for it. I'm trying to keep my expectations low, because it looks too much like Enterprise to me, but who knows? Maybe I'll like it. At least I don't cringe when I see the cast now (Simon Pegg makes an adorable Scotty).
ya idk, i guess they had to get new actors, cuz they couldn't cast the old ones lol, but its just a tough role/roles to fullfill since its such a popular, classic series
a role like shatner or geordi la forge who was played by levar burton...noone can do those roles justice
What are they doing now? They probably couldn’t commit to the movie. I know that Shatner was on Boston Legal for years. I wonder if the others are in any other TV shows now (Levar Burton= reading rainbow haha)?
Nimoy is coming back to play an older Spock (must be in a flashforward...is that what they're called?), but everyone else is either dead or wants to move on. Shatner himself said this was a sad undertaking and that they should just let the original series die with dignity. Whether that was jealousy talking or not is up for debate. We all know how Bill likes his attention. And I mean that in the most endearing way possible.
wwow....thats crazy...shatner would say something like that too.....but i did see that levar burton is in a new tv movie this weekend called america: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGy34G0bQjw ...atleast he's got something going for him
actually came across that america movie and thought he looked familiar...the movie wasn't bad actually, kept me interested....anyone else see it?
star trek sucked back in the sixties and it has allways sucked! i'm not paying money to see any star trek movie no matter who is part of the cast.
I was shocked when I went on imdb and saw how much stuff he has done! You'd think you would see him everywhere and recognize him instantly, because, well, READING RAINBOW! Lol, but no, he has to be all sneaky with his projects...
The cast looks good... but from the previews it looks like it might be too teeny bopper. I mean, whats up with Kirk and Uhurah having a little fling? Their has never been any mention of the two of them having a romantic history, except one episode in the show where they were being controlled. I agree that the series needs a fresh infusion of blood and life, particularly to appeal to a new generation, but I hope that modes operandi doesn't effect the integrity of the Trek universe.
If he wanted to let the original series die with dignity he should not have come back so often - minus the rest of the crew - just for the pay check. He should have left in his heyday rather than TNG heyday. But, I imagine these types of films need a transision from the old to the new.
To be honest it will be a little odd and I too hope they give the same experience. But they all seem good actors and - dare i say - better actors than the original. To be fair perhaps it was the older scripots that were at fault...but the new guys - as long as they embue the spirit - will do just fine. The sad bit is where would they go from here?
Shatner's Raw Nerve. I haven't seen it, though I always mean to... TNG is my personal favorite because I grew up with it, but nothing bats the campy fun of the original. The others can all freaking rot as far as I'm concerned. I thought they were shit. That's part of the reason this new movie makes me so nervous. Nothing since the first two has anything been able to capture the spirit of the original Star Trek for me. I'm trying so hard not to look at this new movie and think "Enterprise... Enterprise... ENTERPRISE!" *slits wrists*
Cast looks alright, I 'spose, but it doesn't look like they have much to work with. I really don't like the fact that they have to rehash the old star trek :beatdeadhorse5:instead of coming up with new ideas and moving forward. I had the same knee jerk enterprise reaction too...
No matter how much money they offered Doohan and De, they would never return any single call to come back for one more movie. I guess they must have some important reason... I remember the last Trek with the original cast had the taste of the last Rocky. Shatner's chair is going to be one with wheels... They need actors that look like they can do what the stuntpeople do for them... Funny but so true. My beef with Trek: we saw the same reruns for 30 years then, they came out with 27 new different spin-offs... They're probably on one of these sci-fi channels but they could have THE Star Trek channel. They have enough movies, shows, interview, conventions to play non-stop... Makes me think of the Futurama show where Star Trek became a religion and they banned it altogether from the planet. I really hope that in this movie they have less "Starfleet regulation" shit that keeps contradicting itself and acts as a "brake" with viewer expectations. Let's see the Enterprise go full blast, full scale war with Klingons. Don't get me wrong - I'm all for World and Universe peace but - this is a movie with cgi and plastic corpes - they can phaser them out! About the cast - Star Trek was an original tv show. It didn,t spawn from a comic, or a cartoon. We've seen one Kirk, got used to his overacting - his ways - Kirk belonged to Shatner. So, if Kirk 2.0 is different from Shatner, people will complain. If he's like Shatner, people will say he's too much like Shatner. Makes me think so much of Superman Returns. Damn if you do, damn if you don't...
i say, fuck the naysaying!!! ive loved star trek for almost 24 years...not loved every bit of it mind you, but alot of it...roddenberry even condoned it while he was alive...i promise all of you, this is gonna be a good film...maybe even better than wrath of khan...
