You are very right. The truth must be told. Although I think that weed can be overused just like any other drug. My kids will be told the truth, for one.
“If you smoke dope you will go nowhere…!” Well maybe to the Olympics and win gold metals. I saw a news blurb where he said he was sorry and it would never happen again. What a sell out punk.. He should of just said "So what.." like the snowboarder a few years back. Micheal Phelps is a sell out poser.
I guess sell out poser is a bit harsh, I just felt deceived when he said “it will never happen again” How does a 20 something year old guy know he will never smoke pot again? And it was like he acknowledged he did something horrible? Refer madness continues
I've really enjoyed reading these posts about Michael Phelps. I'm from SC and just hate like hell that this has happened here - tho' I'm certainly NO USC fan, and Never have been! (God help us all.) Pixieewinged, I certainly agree with your sentiments, and Did tell my son many, many years ago Allll about my "smoke". This turned out to be an excellent decision (one of my few lol), and fyi - he doesn't smoke nor take dope but is a social drinker. We have discussed smoking marijuana and how VASTLY different it is from any Real Drug, and by that I do mean man-made drug. It is absolutely ridiculous to lump a PLANT in with such substances as cocaine, meth, etc. but IT IS - by governments. I know we live in a man-made society with laws, etc; however, when one raises a child I personally think you should Never do anything you are not willing to Tell your child about or have them do. Should my grown boy decide to toke, I assure you I think that would be fine. Especially when there is soooo much else (Really Bad) he/anybody can do. Aside from Michael Phelps poor judgement in being with USC people, I love him and- if it is possible - consider him even More of a winner now.
I say keep kids away from the media.----I think that to much media gives some people a distorted view of things. And people like Phelps are certainly not role models. As far as I'm concerned very few so-called celebs if any are role models.A person really has to be a idiot with little common sense to give a shit about him or any of these 'personalities' the media parades because they(the media) have nothing better to do.Incompetence is their way of doing things. In the US it is a media that makes a big deal out of marijuana, yet the tv,magazines etc. are dominated by prescription drug commercials. It's really a joke.
You asked should Phelps say fuck off etc. etc. If I cared even the smallest bit about him,I'd say sure he should say it,but he won't because of huge endorsement $$$$ of which none of these people deserve.Plus most of these people in the public eye nowadays have very little character as it is.
I didn't word my post so well , to imply that one should Never do a thing - before one has a child...because I can ASSURE you I did a lot of stuff before I had my kid, that I didn't do afterwards...and for the most part, unless I saw a definite Need or Reason, wouldn't feel the need to share every little mistake/act of poor judgement. That's just putting too much on the child, like you described in the tale from your uncle ( lol - tho I'd probably like him). Since this is posted under the media, I am so glad you brought up the issue of the tweens being Taught (in my mind anyway) sexual things that would best be left UNTOUCHED...it is just Wrong in every damn way to have companies address this particular fan base as they do. The Brat dolls. Sickening little nasty things with makeup looking like the mini hookers they will one day become??? Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana is not unlike Britney Spears. And we ALL SAW how good Her parenting skills turned out to be...(when a daddy like K Federline gets the kids, well then - how special must the mama be!) Her daddy, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Miley's mom must surely be making an ass load of money to allow their daughter to participate in and encourage the types of behavior that Hannah Montana and That whole shebang promote. Of course money is the most important thing, right? (not with me )
then again maybe he really doesn't want to smoke again.nothing wrong with that.i don't know and really don't care.i think the sell out is the photographer.what a drag it would be to see that person at a party.and probably anywhere for that matter.
i'm kinda tired of watching sports anymore anyway.if i do watch it's out of a life long habit. those people make way too much money. i think it would be refreshing to see a very good athlete come along that settles for working class wages.there is wide spread greed in athletics that has taken the fun out of the game....it's been kind of funny watching phelps after the olympics.wearing his baseball cap backwards trying to fit in seem like a normal person after winning all those races and having his mom right there at poolside and all that embarrasing stuff and then accepting all that payola for endorseing their ridiculous products.then taking a hit from a pipe only to have some asshole snap his pic(what the f kind of party has somene going around taking pics of smokers anyway?).....then we have a rod and his millions but apparantly he didn't make enough millions to find steroids to actually improve his playing ability or at least a steroid to keep him from chocking in clutch situations.who's paying this millioaire his millions.i mean besides us.i just wondered what team .oh they're pretty much all the same.
I think they need to leave Michael Phelps alone. Kids who want to smoke, will smoke, but I doubt they will just because he did it. Most kids probably don't even know about it. And besides, it's just pot. I'm a teenage girl and smoke pot on occasion and it's totally safe unless you overdo it. From my experiences, alcohol is a much more dangerous drug. Pot just relaxes me and gives me the munchies.
I didn't read all of the post on here, so I'm sorry if this has been said before. My opinion on this is that he's a young adult taking a break from a tedious training schedule, give him a break. He was just having a little fun. We've had presidents that have admitted trying pot before, they didn't get impeached, so why should Michael Phelps lose everything that he's worked so hard for just for making a mistake(getting caught). It's not like he got caught during the Olympics! I have to add too that I'm not a pot smoker, tried it a couple of times when I was a teenager and didn't like it. But I definitely don't have a problem with people who do smoke. Whoever took the picture and sold it for a quick buck should feel really ashamed for screwing up this young man's life.
