Day 1 - Sure hair's already shrinking.

Here's two pictures, the one with the christmas tree was taken yesterday - New Year's Eve - I'd washed my hair, then brushed it for the last time and let it dry naturally. Second one today, after sleeping without a tam. I'm sure my hair's shorter in the second one.

So what do you think? Has my hair type got a chance of dreading up noticeably within the next couple of months?

It will dread fast.

 

You'll definitely see dreads in a few months. In fact, I predict you'll start noticing them really forming within a couple of weeks. This time next year you'll have a head of beautiful, natural dreads that will likely surpass those who started months before you. Please keep updating!

Wow, I bet your dreads are gonna be SICK! I mean wicked sweet! And what a break for you! I thought combing my hair was a bitch, it'll be nice to toss out that hairbrush, pick, comb, whatever you have to use.

I know, it's a feels a bit strange waking up in the morning and not having to reach for the hairbrush - but then I look at it and think: Ha, I have no use for you now!

hmm, got a question about seperating again... I'm thinking I'll do it weekly on the day I wash my hair -- then let it dry and then seperate. Does that sound about right or should I be doing it differently?

 

Many people say it's easier to seperate when its wet after washing, when the hair is slightly softer. I'd say yes, unless you want a beaver tail you're going to have to keep up with the separating on a regular basis. And I agree with everyone else you're going to have very awesome dreads in a very short time. It already looks to me like they want to join together. I've always been very jealous of people who have such curly hair, spare a thought to us poor people with hair that's dead straight and thin!!

Thanks for the advice merrivale, wet/damp seperating may be best, in the past when I've tried to pull apart a knot in my dry hair it hurt a lot.

I'm guessing it's not all bad for people with straight thin hair - it takes longer, but their hair probably looks acceptable in public 'untamed' for longer than mine...My hair's in a tam when I leave the door already until the time some dread -iness starts showing lol. Plus I bet people with straight thin hair can spot where to seperate better than I'll be able to...

Apart from curls that are starting to hang there close to each other on the left side of my head I don't know where I'm going to start. And the hair on the right has gotten shorter and frizzier - I don't know what's going on there, I don't even sleep on that side! Hopefully all will become aparent next week...

 

after they start to form to a size you want you will probably want to separate more than once a week.

i stopped separating for a week because i wanted some loose parts to lock and thin ones to congo. the loose parts did lock, and the think locks did congo, but so did everything else.

after a week most locks where forming into some congo so i had to do some separating. usually i separate at least once a day, but its not like work i just do it without thinking. when i waited for a week it felt like work trying to separate the congos.

you will work into separating regularly by yourself, its just hard to start before the locks are even formed or before they are a size you think you'd like.

 

So, on thursday it'll be 6 weeks of going natural for me. Wanted to post a couple of pics and hopefully get some feedback on how my hair is coming along.

The pic with the single section - a lot of my sections are like this at the end now, with a skinny section of hair above. Does this seem about right?
