Hello :) i hope this is in the right place, i was thinking earlier in the week about how much my diet has changed over the last year, my diet used to be really terrible! Not just from an i ate meat point of view but soooo much junk food sweets and ready made salty meals.

But i met a new friend last year and with her support and suggestions i was first able to cut out all the junk, the went vegetarian and now trying to be vegan (still one or two kinks to iron out on that one!), the change in my diet over one year has been amazing, i feel 10 times better both emotionally and physically! A couple months ago i also found The Compassionate Cooks podcast which also helped me so much in making change.

So i owe my friend a lot, and i owe Colleen (compassionate cooks) alot. I thought it might be a sweet idea to start a thread like this where people can say thanks to those who gave them inspiration or helped them change their diet.

So if my turn first thanks Fiona and Colleen! :D

I have to thank Bob Ingersoll, board member at Mindy's Memory Primate sanctuary for pushing me beyond basic veg thought.
Prabupada for bringing a culture of vegetarianism to the US, and the links that brought that thought to me in nowhere Texas in 1980, when I was ready to make the journey.
The folks at the PPK for being the most awesome community.
Jeff Austin, for offering NOT to get the ribs that one night....

My husband for not mocking my experiment with vegetarianism, unlike all of my other companions in the past, and my stomach for deciding that she was much happier sans meat and suddenly refusing to digest it anymore after my two-week experiment, making the final decision for me. ;D

If I had to name one person that helped me the most - it would be Drumminmama for answering all my questions, inviting me here to hipforums & for not "forcing" me to see things her way. She's the one that really helped me make the final leap.

EVERYONE here has been really helpful. I was raised as a meat-an-veg girl & truly had no clue about SO many things... and it's been a long road.

My tummy didn't hurt things though - the more sensitive it became, the more logical vegetarianism seemed.
    love,
    mom

My philosophy teacher in grade 11. He was a spunky fun loving guy, huge enviromentalist (veg as well). We were doing some class work and there was a question about animal rights and as i began to answer about how they should be treated equally to humans a lightbulb went off. Ever since that night i've been veg.

He made people aware in positive way, and really got through to a lot of kids. He opened our eyes to a whole new world of experiences.

It made my heart unbelievably happy the other day at work when one of my team mates came in talking about him ( they now have him as a teacher at a dfferent highschool) and what a great day they had because of him.

I'm so proud that he continues to touch lives and only hope i too one day can influence even a fraction of the people he has.

    <3 love ya Mattys!

the ppk is Post Punk Kitchen.
based originally on a Brooklyn, NY, public access cooking show and now a series of cookery books by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero.
nice forum, and, unlike, say veggieboards (disclaimer, I'm a supporting member on VB, too) VERY non judgmental.
I sometimes start discussions here to bring good points over. Somewhat like viral philosophy.

No, I just throw it up after one bite. It's rather irritating on days that some doofus in the restaurant tries to throw meat in my order then fish it out. I understand, I'm sort of breaking his rhythm, but argh.

However, my lactose-intolerance seems to have completely ended, and that's supposedly a medical impossibility, so I'm alright with the trade-off. I get chocolate milk, and give up something that I was uncomfortable eating anyway.
