It amazes me now to think that even the 60 y.o principal used to be (well, still is,) in my age group, and, being several years older than I am, was more at the core of the times I once lived through---most of the important boomer developments happened with folks who are that much older than I. Haven't things changed---
Hi Marysoul, if you like to, you should try. When you get a job later, the possibilities will not enhance in tendency. So ‚carpe diem‘ ! I guess i was in your age when i changed over to a boarding school. There i went barefoot a lot. In the beginning i was often told or asked to put something on my feet, but over the time they got tired and i had my freedom. Maybe it was helpful too that i did a good job in school mostly and that i was active in the student self-administration. Wearing a long skirt, as someone proposed, is probably a good way to make your bare feet more bearable for others. Maybe you can try this if it matches your style. I once did a presentation about education in developing countries and literacy as a basic of democracy, and i illustratred it with some photos of schoolchildren walking to their schools over miles in bare feet just to get some elementary knowlegde. Of course i did it barefoot, and it helped me to become more accepted. As long as their are no clothing rules in your school, i guess they only can say they don’t like barefooting, but not enjoin you from going shoeless. Good luck!
Cosplay... hmmm.... which barefoot character was it? Radical Edward? Inuyasha? Ashura (from CLAMP's RG Veda)...? Just curious. We have several barefoot role models in manga and anime ~*Ganesha*~
go for it! seems weird to me anyone makes a fuss about barefooting, i do it all the time in london and no one even notices. a handy trick is to stay polite and non confrontational , explaining you arenot going to make a big deal out of it and you are not going to do it . . . the shoe police can get feisty but even teachers give up in the end, good luck
I have a friend that used to always go to school barefoot and I always go to school wearing a hat - both of which are against the dress code. So, we simply got used to our teachers yelling at us (though most were totally cool with it) and eventually they got tired because it became such a chore. Just do it so often that it's not even worth it to try to stop it. You'd be surprised to know how much control you can have over teachers! ^^
I remember having a gym teacher requiring barefeet at school. She told anyone who forgot their sneakers for phys ed class to take off their shoes and socks and do the activity barefooted. Did anyone out there have to do that?
That was common practice at my school back then as well... In elementary school, we also had special indoor clothing for PE, which looked very much like black cotton fine rib underwear - boxer-style pants and a tank top. Bare feet went with it, and hardly any pupil wore sneakers or gym shoes. Later, in high school, it was the general rule to attend PE barefoot, if you forgot your indoor sneakers. Socks alone were too slippery on the gym floor, so bare feet were just safer. However, this was not a way to a beautiful barefoot school life, since the teachers were quite adamant in demanding to bring sneakers next time, otherwise you'd be in trouble (letter to your parents or even giving you a bad grade for PE for constantly forgetting your equipment). Wiggling toes, happy that these times are over (except for elementary school, that is...), ~*Ganesha*~
When i was at school (seems like decades ago-oops, it was decades ago!) bare feet were compulsory in p.e. class. All we ever wore was a pair of white shorts.
With us there was always a choice of plimsolls or bare feet. Stupidly I always wore plimsolls. Think it had been drummed into me at home that bare feet were "naughty" so it never occurred to me to go for the barefoot option. All those wasted opportunities!
We had to wear gym shoes and if you did not have them you had to take of your shoes and socks and go barefoot. Sometimes PE class included outside activities which were undertaken in gym shoes or barefeet but never in school shoes.
You can wear flip-flops and find out by experimentation how much of the time you can get by with keeping them stashed under your chair or in your bookbag. Some teachers are going to be more lenient than others. You can surely put your sandals away near the end of your last class of the day. That works in almost any kind of a building, anytime. How can they throw you out while you are leaving?
They can get on your ass and give you detention if you do it too many times. You have to think like an authoritarian once in a while for practical purposes.
I went barefoot afew weeks ago. One teacher asked if my feet were cold without shoes or socks (they were, it's still kinda winter here). No one really said anything. Some smart ass comments from students, but that's it. I loved it. Plan on doing it more once it's warmer.
To me, it's the sole on the ground that counts, so a sandal isn't even remotely like being barefoot. I don't care at all what is on top of my feet; I want to feel the ground underfoot. To me, a sandal or flipflop is just as awful as a combat boot.
