I have very dry eyes. My eyes basically make almost no tears at all, and my eye doctor told me to take Omega 3 Fatty Acids, or to eat more fish. I don't like fish and I wouldn't eat it if I liked it, but I wanted to take the pills and just deal. The only pills they have, have gelatin in them!! Anyone know of a cheap brand that has NO gelatin in it? Thanks so much! :D

no, but can you get soy milk with Omega 3 in it? There is a brand of So Good essential here that has plant-derived omega three added to it.

Also, (forgive me if this is wrong) but flax seed oil is, I think, quite high in Omega 3, like 67% of your RDI?

Flax seed oil is quite high in Omega 3, and you can use it as an ingredient in salad dressing if you don't want to just spoon it down. But keep a couple of things in mind. Flax seed oil cannot be used as a cooking oil. It will lose all it's healthful properties if heated. Also, flax seed oil goes rancid rather quickly. So it must be kept refrigerated in a dark container. That means if you add it to salad dressing, only make enough for that day. The book, "Becoming Vegan" has a great recipe for making salad dressing with flax seed oil.

It's probably better for you to eat the flax seeds as opposed to using the oil. You can grind them up in a blender, then blend them with water as an egg replacer for many baking recipes. I use around 1 Tbs. Ground flax seeds blended with 1/4 cup water to sub for each egg. You can also sprinkle the ground seeds on top of oatmeal or other hot cereal, mixed in applesauce or added to a smoothie.

Walnuts are another great source of Omega 3s. In fact, Walnuts have a 4 to 1 ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3, which is considered to be a good ratio between the two fatty acids.

I've got 100% plant origin (no gelatin) omega 3 pills.....I don't think you can get'm in amerika though....
Another thing: Omega 3 also helps your mind work way more clearely, after taking them pills (2X a day), I started to learn things like, 5 times faster.(Really! I learned all vocabulary words by reading them only 3 times! They all made it in my long-term memory too...)
and started kicking butt in chess (Me LOVES chess!!)

Omega 3's are in canola oil, which is used for frying.

I'm not sure about what's in olive oil, in regards to EFA's, but olive oil is supposed to be good for you, so it may be worthwhile researching that, and havin gsome olive oil anyways, or at least usin ga bit of olive oil!

Flaxseed oil is also known as Linseed oil. It is exactly the same thing, but quite often it's cheaper to buy in under the linseed name. Just get the food grade linseed oil, not the furniture polish grade. :p

stay away from canola oil.....olive oil comes from olives...flaxseed oil comes from flaxseed....there is no such thing as a canola. Its the rapeseed wich is very poisionous to us in its natural state, they then process/refine and what ever other messed up things they do to it and it then becomes canola...wich stands for soemthing I forget right now.....but we should be calling it cancer oil not canola oil!!!

Yup, they changed the name from "rapeseed" because they didn't think consumers would buy oil with the word "rape" in the name.

Hempseed has very high omega-3s and is the single most complete source of food on the planet! I add hempseed to my granola in the morning and use hempseed oil in salads and sometimes smoothies.

i agree with TreePhiend: hemp oil, baby! you can get hemp seeds legally at a health food store. they're good baked in bread, sprinkled on salads, in veggie patties...

also, use flax seed. i've had excellent results using flax as an egg replacer. stir some fresh ground flaxseed into cooked cereal, nut butter, bread dough, etc. use it together with the hemp.

my co-op carries a nutrition bar that's real food, as opposed to chocolate-covered sugar-with-vitamins-added. i forget the brand name, but i'll post it as soon as i remember. their bars are vegan, and they have one that's especially rich in omega-3, and tastes pretty good, too.
