So, I found out I got admitted into the University of Oregon which was the school I was really hoping to get into. I'm a senior in highschool at the moment, and only have about 6 months left of school until I'll be free. However, I have been seriously considering taking a year off between highschool and college to do some travelling and working. From what I've heard, if you plan it out right and stay active, a gap year can very well turn out to be one of the best years of your life. My main worry though by taking a year off and going to college a year later, I'll have a harder time relating to people and making new friends since I'm assuming most people in my class will be a year younger than me. Does anyone know what I am talking about? I know it's kind of silly, but out of all the things that could happen, that's my biggest fear. And so if anyone has any insights to offer, I'd really appreciate it. At the moment I'm planning on studying anthropology in college, so was thinking of doing something with that somewhere exotic for a few months.
People go to school at all ages. I took about four years off. I can honestly say that as an older student I find the students who are straight out of high school to often be extremely annoying and quite insincere in their studies. I believe most of them don't know how to adjust to a learning environmental at a level that is not high school and some life experience would have 1) been a huge asset to them and 2) what they really wanted to do anyway. So I'd recommend it.
My sister went to college right out of high school and her roommate was 24. They clicked with flying colors. I bet you'd be fine taking a year off.
