I've had to grit my teeth when I heard the president for the last 8 years, Now its your turn. :cheers2:
I only wrote this dumb thread because I was seeing so many anti-dems, and anti-liberals threads on that "front porch". and I was just remembering how I hated Bush, and how I was glad that finally the tables were turned. It was inflammatory and pointless, but at the time I thought the title was pretty funny. The change thing, That remains to be seen.:toetap05:
Yeah, thats what I thought when I was 18, and I even voted for Nader-LaDuke in 2000, and where'd that get us? It got us Bush. These things really do have real effects in real peoples lives. Not as much as we'd like maybe, but there is a difference between the Dems and Reps.
The laws they pass, the ideology they subscribe to, the tactics they dish out to the media, the demographics that vote for them, the policies they work on, etc.
Yes, that is what the brainwashed majority believe. However, that simply is not the case, except for maybe the part about the demographic which vote for them. That is pretty much the only really noticeable difference between the two.
No, they both equally support police state legislation and bigger, more totalitarian government. Both are equally corporatist. What big brother legislation put forward by Bush does Obama not support? In terms of laws passed, I see no difference at all. The Democrats might be more inclined to support social programs, but these programs aren't geared towards helping people, rather increasing the size and control of government. The outcomes of both parties are identical, though there may be some slight superficial differences designed to maintain the illusion of difference. But certainly neither party is working for the interests of anyone other than their corporate overlords. When the Democrats took office in '06, instead of going after Bush they rolled out the red carpet for him.
I'm sorry Aristartle, I know I started this, but I don't have the energy to try to change anyones mind. I pretty sure that some people who cling to the notion that the dems and reps are all the same just are not paying close enough attention, or want an excuse to do nothing at all. I also know that there are many intelligent people who believe their all the same, and they work very hard to introduce a 3rd, or 4th party. They are doing good work and I don't want to insult them. I just feel that I'm going to try and help pull the dems to the left for now. Pressed Rat would probably agree that in the BIG picture, it dosn't matter a damn what any of us think.
Having blind faith in a system that has proven time and time again to be corrupt is no better than doing nothing at all. However, if people are going to work to change things (which seems highly unlikely at this point) they are going to have to come to the realization that they have no real power within the system itself. Their elected officials -- the people you vote into office to work for you -- simply do not represent the people. What have politicians (from either side) done to help people in this country?
I'm not going to argue with you. To each their own. I don't think human existence has any meaning at all, let alone politics in the USA, but you have to do something till you die. I just pick a side and then root root root for the home team.
Well, I was oversimplifying to try to exaggerate my indifference to life. (being over-dramatic) I have actually changed teams three times. I do pay attention.
