We currently live in Illinois and are pretty much dying to get out of here. Here are the facts we have 3 kids ranging from 13 to 7 and have decided to move to Eugene Oregon. We have never even been to Oregon but ued to livein California. We loved the coast but it was too pricey. We are wanting to know everything you can tell us!! We have been reading these forums and have been a bit scared about it now because we are moving in about 8 weeks and have heard nothing but negative things about jobs, polution, seasonal allergy isssues (son has asthma) and METH!!!! Is it so bad?? Was this a bad choice?? We have moved the kids so much and really wanna settlle down and don't want to have made the wrong choice for us or them. I really don't want to worry that my kids will be doing Meth in high school or wether we have to worry about some meth-head breaking in my house. What's up people?? Tell me everything you know!!! I am also wondering about the schools. I will be going to Lane and my husband UofO. One of my kids were picked thru a lottery for the Ridgeline Montessori School and the oldest will be going to Network Charter School. Can I get info on these too???? Thanks so much. I feel this is my best resource!!! ~Melody
All I know about Eugene is that it's amazing. To me anyways. I don't know alot about schools or jobs or whatnot. Allergies do get kinda bad during spring and summer but its worth it. I think that you'll love it. Its a nice city, Everyone is so friendly with an awesome environment. The meth situation, I've heard its horrible, I grew up in Roseburg, An hour south and My highschool meth wasnt a big problem at all. Weed is what people did. I never had ANY problem with meth what so ever. Not sure about eugene tho. Hope this helped and good luck=]
Thank you so much for your thoughts!! I've been waiting for a reply for sometime now. Appreciation all around!!! ~Melody
How did the move go? Did you end up moving out here to Eugene? I'd love to hear your impressions of the city. I grew up here, so I'm pretty steeped in what Eugene is. But it's always interesting hearing what other people have to say.... As far as the crime statistics - our violent crime is relatively average for the size of town we are. But because of the meth problems we've had, our property crime statistics are relatively high. I've not personally had any problems with that - not for years, anyway. But it is out there. I need to look it up, but I believe that the meth stats have gone down since pseudophedrine has been moved to prescription....
