With the weather getting colder in my area, it won't be possible to walk barefoot outside at least until late Spring probably.
I'm thinking about indoor places to go barefoot, where the weather outside doesn't matter. I wonder what would happen if I went to an art gallery and asked them if I could take my shoes off and wander around? I could always say that I feel closer to the art, or more introspective when I'm barefoot or something.
Do you think they'd think it was strange?

My advice - Don't ask. If you give them the option to say "No" then they will. If it were me, I'd go in with flip flops, and while studying a painting or a sculpture, slip them off. Then just "forget" to put them back on. :p

And even better to screw even saying sorry! Why should one have to apologize for going barefoot anywhere, much less in an art gallery, where freedom of choice and expression is extolled above all else?!

As far as getting through the door, though, wear flip-flops, then stash them in a knapsack. If anyone hassles you, tell them you don't feel it's a big deal, and that therefore they shouldn't either, and that you're perfectly okay barefoot, thankyouverymuchforyourconcernbutI'mfine. If they ask you if you have shoes, just say no, I don't -- don't need them. If they want to kick you out over it, be willing to accept that, but ask to speak with a manager. If he says that it's a "regulation," ask to see it in print. If he says it's a "health code" or a "law," tell him that you have researched this because you have been challenged about being barefoot before, since it's your habit to be so, and you know that there is no health code or law about bare feet. Tell him that if he wishes to enforce one, then the burden is upon him to prove that it even exists. If they threaten to call the cops on you, do leave, but tell them that you will be back in a week, after which time you will enter barefoot again and you expect that they will either meet you with acceptance, or a citation of an actual law or regulation against bare feet. And if they fail to do that, and fail to admit you, demand their names, and tell them that they will be mentioned specifically in a letter to the museum's board of directors, and then follow through with that.

    Good luck.

i bet george bush will make a law against barefeet. that's the kind of jerk he is. limiting other people's happiness.
"don't have sex. don't fall in love if you're not heterosexual. don't find cures to deathly diseases through stem-cell research. and don't go barefoot, because that would make you happy."
people shouldn't have to question going barefoot. it's kind of sad, isn't it? :(

Hmm. What an example of deep political analysis.

It must truly SUCK to have a president who is (for once) a true Christian, who will stick to his guns and not pander to perverts and who would not encourage baby-killing in the name of science.

    How horrible.

And as much as I'd like to see it, the US government probably won't waste time on a country-wide ordnance against bare feet. Too bad.

Yeah, I haven't ever seen a Democrat be closed minded.
Especially not on a subject like gun control, for example. They're the most open-minded people you can encounter.

(It was my turn to be sarcastic.)

The most disingenuous thing a person can do is deny that he has the same faults as everyone else whose faults he points out. I see Democrats doing this all the time on boards like this. They rail and rail against Republicans as though the Reps invented lying or greed. It ends up looking rather pathetic.

Astoroth: It must truly SUCK to have a president who is (for once) a true Christian, who will stick to his guns and not pander to perverts and who would not encourage baby-killing in the name of science.

a true Christian who launces an illegal war (according to Kofi Anann, secretary General of the UN)
a true Christian who pollutes the environment and refuses to sign up the the Kyoto agreement

Give me a break. The guy is an awful axample of Christianity.. He alone has made America become one of the hatest places in the world because of his racist, sectarian, unjust treatment of Muslims (guantanamo bay for eg) and his disasterous foreign policy, which incidently does not start with Iraq... His father was happy to fund the IRA through allowing fundraising openly in the streets of NewYork... I guess he is as introverted as his father when it comes to looking beyond his own boarders!

Anyone who thinks Bush HELPS religion of any pursuasion is blinded by fanaticism of their own...

I wish he would keep his faith private.. it means all the other people who claim to be Christian get stuck in the same box as him, what a crock!

Excuse me!! Since when does the US need the United Nations to legitimize its actions, ESPECIALLY when the US is defending itself?

The United Nations is a collection of pygmys and third-world countries that, at the very least, hate us and want our stuff. Are you aware that Russia, Germany and France received kickbacks from Saddam when he was raping the "oil for food" program just to keep quiet? Where was that impotent organization when Saddam thumbed his nose at their "resolutions"?

Illegal war? That's the pot calling the kettle black. The UN a corrupt organization which is our enemy, and it has NO SAY WHATSOEVER in what the United States does to protect itself.

As far as Christianity goes. This country was founded by Christians and on Christian principles. The Constitution itself is written for God-fearing people. Without a set of core morals, freedom has no meaning. There is nothing wrong with a President affirming his faith in public.

And as far as the "Muslim hate" goes. I do not hate the Muslims. Not all Muslims are terrorists. But thus far, all terrorists we've met since 9/11 have been Muslim. WHERE is the Muslim community? Why do we not hear a clamor of voices denouncing the terrorist atrocities? That, my friends, is called "guilt by association."

Think about that next time you lash out against Bush.

in times like these, i would like to have a law to be able as a free citizen of this world to help all the americans and the rest of the world and could vote in the US. but im only from "old europe", so all the old europeans can do is watch your election and hope - at least this time - the better guy will win. so i wish you all the best luck.

Those attitudes reveal why I dont need to respond to your post, cos everyone can see your outdated and racist views! That is a fucking disgrace!

Yeah, this is supposed to be a thread about going barefoot in museums. I haven't done it thus far, I would feel a lot more comfortable if I had someone else to do it with me. Then there would be someone else that people think is crazy :p.

    Peace, Al

I never said that Democrats are flawless, or not closed-minded. i was just saying that one of my friends had made me angry. many republicans have no tolerance for the radical notion that gay people are people too. that's not saying ALL republicans condemn it, or that ALL democrats support it. another pathetic thing in message boards are people making assumptions. People on all sides screw up sometimes. I never once said that Republicans are the only lying or greedy people.
