Bonnaroo 2009

Bonnaroo 2009!!!! This is going to be my first Bonnaroo!!! Was wondering if anyone else knows already, that they are going. I'll be making the trip solo so it would always be nice to meet people before bonnaroo. Who knows, maybe caravan and camp as a group. Thanks! Peace, love and Bonnaroooo! :grouphug:

i went in '07 and had a blast, are you saying it has changed since then? i heard all the rumors but im not into rumors


plenty of drugs, no cops ever even looked at me or made me feel uncomfortable, more people then you can imagine but i enjoyed that, the lineup could have been better but bonnaroo is the kind of thing you will never forget


the only thing you have to watch is the 50 or so cop cars waiting to pull people over as the exit, just wipe off any markings they put on your car, and drive safely for the first hour and you should be fine

 

dude. metallica/pearl jam headlined in 2008. of COURSE mtv has bought bonnaroo. fuck mtv. also, when i went in 08, we couldn't find bud for the life of us. there was molly and pills and all kinds of lsd but we seriously spent HOURS searching for some fucking nuggs! at BONNAROO! it was my first time, so i don't know how it was before, but i'm pretty sure mtv fucked bonnaroo up. and we couldn't find mushrooms either. we ran into a bunch of fake-ass mushrooms, but we couldn't find any good ones. it could have been that we were searching for them on the second to last day...but yeah weed was WAY TOO HARD TO FIND. it's fucking BONNAROO for christ's sake. i was disappointed in that. i think it was because they searched every single car on the way in, that probably got rid of a bunch of the weed people were gonna sell.

that being said, it's still impossible to NOT have the time of your life at bonnaroo. it's super fun, and we never had problems with cops, BUT getting into centeroo was a trip, we had some waterguns confiscated OH and my friend andy had our weed confiscated because he forgot to put it at the bottom of his backpack! OMG THAT WAS FUCKING TRAGIC. we had seriously spent so much time searching for bud (as i mentioned above) and we finally found some shit from these really strung out guys, it was fucking white and all kinds of crystally--really good bud. funny story, it was getting dark out and the guys dropped a nugget on the ground, we couldn't find it so after a bunch of strung out attempts to make a decision, they went ahead and gave us a replacement. well as soon as they left we were on the ground searching and I FUCKING FOUND IT!! haaaa it was awesome. so andy had this bag of weed just sitting on top of his shit in his backpack the next day, and they check you on your way into centeroo (the place with the stages) well the dickhead who checked andy opened his bag and saw it and andy just looked at him and went "come on, dude..." and the bastard fucking took it and stashed it for himself!!!! i swear to god, we saw him put it in his pocket. true story, we were PISSED. BUT fortunately we had the nugget that i found on the ground so we smoked that later that night and got STONNNNED.

oh another shitty thing about bonnaroo 08 was kanye west. fuck that guy. he fucked up the first half of my first ever acid trip. i could have gone to see sigur ros, but my friends wanted to see kanye and his badass light show. well he was supposed to go on at like 2:30 or something and he made us fucking wait until 5:45 in the morning!! when it was light out! people were pissing in water bottles and throwing them at the stage. and there were so many glowsticks that got thrown at the stage too. and someone threw a waterbottle that actually messed up one of the lcd screens he had set up. so the fucking light show was ruined and he didn't even play his whole set. and he gave a half assed performance. fuck kanye! he didn't even apologize! he wrote a blog later all about how it was all bonnaroo's fault and how his stage specs were wrong and how much it hurts his knees to perform. oh boo hoo. i went through hell and high water to be front and center in the pit. we were in line and sat through fucking pearl jam and all the fucking drunk ass pill head pearl jam fans to be front and center, then they told us they had to clear the whole area before kanye went on, so we ran all the way out to the gates of the stage area. then we found out they WEREN'T clearing the area so we sprinted back to the fucking line. and the security guy fortunately recognized us and let us back to the front. then pearl jam went for like 2 hours longer than they were supposed to.

so a lot of shitty things happened at bonnaroo but it was still a ragin good time. smoked a lot of drugs, bought my first glass pipe, tripped my balls off with my best friends, saw the raconteurs! and a bunch of other cool bands-like iron & wine, cat power, tegan & sara, gogol bordello, death cab for cutie, rilo kiley & more. so yeah i'm going to try to go again this year. mtv blows but you can't fully kill the spirit of bonnaroo. like i said, it's impossible not to have a good time

 

When is it and where is it this year?

 

it is always in Manchester, Tennessee and i believe it is june 11th through the 14th this year. go to www.bonnaroo.com for more info. i don't think they have the line-up yet, though, and that is always a deciding factor.

by the way, if you are worried about cops, dont be a dumbass...and if yuo are smart, you can sniff out the narks...but it has not been bought out...they had a terrible year last year...and yeah its a huge festy...but if thats not waht you want go to smaller ones

im down for both...the huge crowd is part of the experience, never seeing the same person twice---but i love the festivals that you see ppl repeatedly as well

i went to roo in 07 and loved it...refused to go this year, but if the lineup i posted above is real, and things work out i will totally be there this summer

Still Bonnaroo sucks big hairy balls, as does the whole state of TN. You could not pay me to go back there.

If you haven't been here's what you would have to look forward to: a bunch of freeloading beggars asking everybody for money, whether it be at Wal-mart or while you wait in line to get into the venue.

Then you get a bunch of punk ass kids checking your car.

Next is the camping: They park you soooo close together, you have to scramble to save an area to pitch a tent. Everybody brings their canopies, and they are usuall large as fuck.

Don't expect to camp near Centeroo. The walk is hella long. Some people end up walking 45 minutes. It's easy to get lost also, whether under the influence or not.

They name of the stages and tents are ridiculous. Good luck finding where the fuck you're going when you first get there. Asking for directions? Ha! Impossible. Not even the volunteers know.

The headliners usually suck big balls.

It's reallllllly dusty.

Way too many people. If you want to be upfront or relatively close, you have to wait through other acts that you just don't get two shits about.

It's really hot.

The port-o-johns are the nastiest things ever! Shit smeared all over---all of them---almost all the time. Bring your own TP and a bucket.

No real shower facilities.

Worst. Festival. Ever.

I plan to go there too, but I haven't got firm plans yet... I'll probably start chatting it up with friends soon.

Yes, it's corporate, yes it's F@#$in' HUGE!, yes, it's crowded!

Go. Plan to camp by your car or in your camper. Plan to chill and go with the flow. Plan to walk a mile each way to your car. Talk. Make friends. Enjoy the peace.

The food for sale was actually quite good, but bring plenty of your own just in case. Bring water too, just in case.

The one piece of advice I would offer (and I definitely plan to do myself this time!) is to rent or borrow a camper with your own bathroom! The camping is great, and all part of the experience, but I did miss having a shower. The port-a-potties were MUCH better maintained than I had expected, but they were still port-a-potties. (If you use them, bring your own TP!!!)

snap_crackle__RACHEL, you must have tried REALLY HARD to not find drugs. I'm old, bald, and really square looking, but even I was offered all kinds of recreational plants on many occasions. Drugs are not my thing, and I avoid them. Still, I saw plenty of folks enjoying various plants and alcohol, and plenty of folks who were not. The police were on horses, and they were quite friendly and helpful. They mostly ignored the chemicals and spent their time looking for folks who were not playing nicely together.

Folks of all ages were really friendly. There were folks much older than me, and lots of folks brought their kiddos. Basically, you could have almost any kind of time you wanted to have.
