is it possible to buy a poppy plant at a local plant store/greenhouse?
also are poppy seeds such as from the grocery store viable?
if not is there a way to legally buy viable opium poppy seeds perhaps online?

i doubt it's possible to buy a plant from a greenhouse, but it's always worth checking.
i've heard that the ones from the grocery store are baked, but also that not all of them are destroyed- i read once online that if you take like two containers of them and plant all the seeds, a few are bound to grow (again not sure if it's legit or not).
and i'm sure there's a way to get good seeds online, probably on ebay or something.

or you could always go looking around your neighborhood- apparently they are a pretty common plant in certain areas. if you find one, you could cut off a pod, and then use the seeds inside that to plant your own.

I've been interested in finding good seeds for a while myself, but i'm too lazy to actually go out looking.

yea... you can still buy them.. and you can order them online
i havent bought any in a while because they regrow every year usually.
remember, its a flower, and a beautiful one at that.

its not illegal to grow, its just illegal to harvest the opium :)

and yes, there are different strains of Papaver somniferum (opium)..
the strongest one, Papaver bracteatum, produces opium that has almost no morphine in it, which means the latex cannot be converted into heroin, or smoked as opium, but is widely used for synthetics..

you can buy poppy seeds at your local store or Wal-Mart.. there is nothing illegal about growing flowers.. its only illegal if you are caught harvesting the sap from the pods

    great online source for poppies..
    http://www.poppies.ws/store/poppy-seed.html

i dont think they have a selection at stores like wal-mart or target, probly just one strain.. and its probably one that doesnt produce alot of opium.. i could be wrong tho

and yea... dont ask for a fuckin Opium poppy... thats just asking for trouble, and you will probly get kicked out of the store, because that is def saying 'my intentions are illegal' lol... just look for the seeds, they might be named Papaver Somniferum

Hi, you can order the seeds online from parkseed.com. Just do a search for poppy seeds and you'll find dozens of varieties. They sell Somneferium seeds, and I've read that the papaver rhoeas strain is another one that contains the good stuff! I ordered a couple seed packs from them a year ago of the "Hens and Chicks" variety. No problems with ordering or shipping, but it's was too hot here for the plants to do very well. 2 plants grew and developed small seed pods, but then ended up drying up and dying.

You can also try buying the ones they sell at the grocery stores and see if any of them sprout. I've heard they're sterilized but some will survive and grow! It's worth a try if you're devoted enough.

    Hope it works for ya!

You all need to go on youtube watch some poppy videos. One poster exjordanary, has some AMAZING videos of all different species of poppies that he grows on his farm in Washington state. He also sells these same seeds from the flowers in the videos on eBay. One of the more reputable and reasonably priced papaver somniferum seed dealers on the internet. Best of luck.

PS, growing poppy is fucking simple. Nothing as challanging as growing weed.

And the seeds in the grocery store are BULLSHIT. They will have very low yields of opium typically because they are bread for flavor. You should be looking for medical quality pods, the best of which are of Afghani descent. Look for a species he sells called Izmir Afghanistan. He said himself are his highest yielding pods in terms of opium. It also flowers in just 55 days!!
