My daughter is turning 9 next month and has just as many boy-friends as she does girl... so she's asked if she can have a party for both. It took us awhile to decide on a theme that wouldn't be "stupid" or "too girly" for the boys, but we finally decided that a "movie theater" theme would work well.

We're about 4 weeks out from the party and trying to finalize a few things... this will be for 9 children (including herself and big-brother) between the ages of 8 & 13, and there are a TON of allergies between the different kids that will be here so the menu is more or less "stuck." But can anyone think of anything (small/inexpensive) else that we could add to make this EXTRA cool? Oh... and does anyone know of a more "green" way to wrap up the goodie-boxes than cellophane that would still look nice?

Party Theme: Movie Theater (Movie = Prince Caspian, ordered from Blockbuster-Online)

Guests: (names withheld, sorry ;) ) DD, DS, 3 boys & 4 girls

Invitations: Make invitations & include a “movie ticket” with instructions to bring the ticket along to the party. At the door, tear tickets in half & use the stubs for a drawing – prize is a $10 Blockbuster GC. Along with their ticket stubs, give everyone play money for the concession stand. (Total cost $15)

Decorations: Make a movie-theater “Now Showing” yard sign
Hang a Hollywood Star with Princess' name on the front door
Hang SOMETHING with gold stars from the marriage wall
Place silver, gold & black mylar star balloons around the living room
Hang black curtains from the entertainment center to surround the TV (Total cost $20)

Food: Turn the dining room into a concession-stand (with menu hanging from the curtain) with…
Homemade pizza & nachos with cheese/salsa (served in oval concession-dishes)
popcorn (served in cardboard pocorn boxes)
movie-theater candy boxes (junior mints, raisinettes, gummy-bears…)
and organic soda cans & bottled water (Total cost $40)

Goodie Bags: Use plastic popcorn boxes wrapped in cellophane & curly-ribbons and fill them with:
    $100-bill pencils & notepads
silver, gold & black party blowouts
director's clapboard photo keychains (with each kids’ photos printed out & pre-inserted)
    gold & silver star stickers
    mini microwave popcorn bags
and snack-size “movie theater” candies (Total cost $40)

    Aww, thanks :)

DD is getting excited. She & I are making the invitations this weekend so she can give them out next Wednesday. We're waiting to hear back from one mama before picking up food & goodies, to make sure we avoid ALL their allergies.

After hunting around, I think I've answered my own question about the cellophane. They DO make a "green" wrap made from wood-pulp, and I'll definitely be picking some of that up before Mother's Day... but for the kids, I think I'll just skip the wrap completely. It's not like a 9 year old boy is really gonna be all that impressed by the presentation after all, are they? Hey - it'll save me money too!
    love,
    mom

Sounds like a great idea. I would have loved my parents to go all out like that, a yeard sign and everything! lol

Honestly, I think co-ed is fine. At least in this case for example, it's not a sleep over, they're going to be occupied and I think it would just raise questions of why can't the boys come over. I mean, at 9 I'm sure she understands the differences, but not the works, so it would just seem weird to her.
Even if it was a sleepover, at that age I wouldn't worry. Just keep them in the living room, you know.

Green cellophane? Just kidding. Man I wish my parents were as cool as you! When it comes time for my childrens next party, I'm posting here for ideas. I always feel like my parties suck.
