Haven't seen it yet, but from what I've heard it's yet more proof that remakes just should not be made ever.

With the exception of John Carpenter's The Thing, I can't think of any remake of a film which is actually better than the original.

    Can anyone think of any?

The blob had a good remake. Heaven Can Wait had a remake with cris rock. I saw it once, it was pretty good. Not as good as the origional. I saw a remake of The Shinning today. Oh man it sucked.

I would say ...stop remaking old Michael Caine films. The last couple of years we've had THE ITALIAN JOB, GET CARTER and now ALFIE.

I think that FISTFUL OF DOLLARS is the best remake ever (YOJIMBO), but at least that took a fresh approach to the remake idea....turning Samurai film into a western.

Funny you would mention HEAVEN CAN WAIT since that itself is a remake of the 1941 film HERE COMES MR. JORDAN... both good films though.

The remake of Dawn of the Dead was ok, but it could have been much better. They took the easy way out by just using a bunch of blood packs. Where's the Romero-like ripping apart of bodies? Day o fthe dead was amazing, and that was years ago. They sould have had some innovative special effects, not just CGI.:(

But, I think that there are too many remakes in the world (movies and video games). People are just running out of fresh ideas, if you ask me.

    That's cool, I did'nt know that.

Anyways, I don't know if this constitutes a "remake" per say, but when they did the modern Romeo and Juliet, with leonardo decaprio... I thought that was pretty good.

The problem is originality. People feel obliged to make films which are completely original, and they struggle to do it. So, rather than make a new film which looks like a rip-off, they make a genuine official and accredited rip-off instead.

Thing is, the need for originality is only a modern thing, and seems to be a phase which we as a race are growing out of. Hopefully, the art of storytelling will take over from the story itself.
