Hey everyone. I will be attending the Ocala Rainbow gathering for the first time in 2009 and I've been reading over the threads to get a feel for everything. Thanks to everyone who's posted information (both positive and negative) so I can have an idea as to what to expect. I was just wondering who all is planning on attending the 2009 gathering this year; I'm mostly curious as to who I can look forward to meeting around camp and to get to know the local Rainbows a bit.

    Thanks!

I'll see you at Ocala, bro. You can find me bopping around with my med. pack patching up hippies or maybe down at GratefulDread with my knives chopping veggies. (or maybe Willie if he doesn't apologise for that little comment about me to Swan..."Yea man, you know his old lady, Littlewing. She's an absolute angel, nothing like that asshole Zen") LOL

I digress.....Look forward to meeting you.

Aaaaaannnnd, my rap to newbies in the Fla. woods.

Keep your footwear ON!!! Yea, the sand feels nice but I can't count how many feet I've patched up.

There ARE scorpions and their sting hurts bad. Watch where you sit and be sure to shake out your shoes and clothes before putting them on and your sleeping bag at night.

Palm and palmetto fronds can be sharp. Be aware.

I figure you already know about gators.

    Use common sense.

Find a kitchen or camp that fits you and plug in.

Party hardy and keep an eye out for 6-up.

Lovin' U and see ya soon.

    Zen:D

I'll be there. Heading out end of next week and don't forget to have some cold weather gear,as the nights get cold, not nearly as cold as up here in Upstate N.Y. and the 40 degree temp. change is tough on the body.
The Sun will be shining along with all of the shining Rainbows.
Check me out at the Front Gate/Welcome Home. Last Year I lasted the whole time there, with of course the recharge your batteries trips into Rainbow Land.

See ya there, Al. I'll probably come down to Front Gate and see if Patches is around. He's a sweet old drunk.

Scorpions, brown recluse spiders....and ants! Kid name of Arkansas went on a wood run, and almost ended up in anaphylactic shock a few years ago, 'cause one of the sticks of wood was somebody's home. You just gotta love camping in the South!

I do Love camping in the South,as I'm not into winter camping up here in Upstate N.Y. Florida is AOK with me,as long as there are Rainbows all around.

Yeah, I've been doing a lot of camping over the past year, going out to the Ocala forest about once a month for some form of camping. I'm really looking forward to going out there for the gathering; I figure it'll be an awesome new experience.

It seems like there are some pretty cool people going to be there. I'm looking forward/hoping to meet you guys out there. On average, how many people attend the Ocala gathering each year?

I'd be surprised if it breaks 500 on the peak weekend....but I'm a bit far from the center of things. Back in the 80's and 90's, before this recent plague of violence infected the gatherings, I understand 1000-2000 wasn't uncommon for Ocala.

I'm going to be going to the Ocala gathering. It's my first time too. :) I'm so excited, I've been wanting to go to one of these since I was 15.

Hey everyone. I am planning on attending my first gathering in New Mexico for the national. I just have a few questions, what do you think would be the best way to get down there? I live in Vancouver, BC so i think im gonna try to hitch it down, or look for a ride share, i hope some people from here or Washington state will be heading down. So any tips you can offer me would be greatly appreciated. And im super excited to meet some of you wonderful people.

    Peace you pal Nathan

Your first time, eh? Just be aware, your chair would get stuck real easy in sugar sand, even with fat tires.

I have another question. Well i was wondering, where do people go after the gatherings. Cause i would love to meet some people who are maybe trekking off to another gathering some place or where ever. Since i will be leaving here alone, i would love to make some friends along the way and maybe join their group. I just need to get out and explore, you know. Im damn lucky to live in such a beautiful country, Id love to move to the Yukon, i'll see. Thanks for all of your peoples help.

    peace

I'm in the same boat as you Nathan, hoping to find direction of some sort at the gathering, or just get a ride up to Atlanta. I wish you the best of luck friend. I hope out paths cross at the gathering.
