Somewhere South of the river would probably be cheapest, and the furthest you're going to be away from the centre is 30-45 minutes anyway, because everywhere is so easily accessible.

Compared to Estonia though, London is NOT cheap. Actually, compared to most places London is EXTREMELY expensive.

    Are you moving here alone?

Elephant and Castle is only of the cheapest Central places.

Places that ive liked living that are quite cheap: Holloway, Arsenal, Finsbury Park and Manor House.

Stoke Newington is lovely and to be recommended, though tubeless.

If you want cheap then don't even look West..

Stoke Newington/Stamford Hill area is indeed lovely. I quite like most of Hackney, despite what people who've not been there think of it.. Some of it is hardcore though. Just a shame it's being shat on for the Olympics which are going to go tits up.

I'm quite keen on the East in general. I lived just off Brick Lane once, in a high rise, which wasn't too expensive and that's a really cool area, amazing asian food on your doorstep and some happening nightlife and great multicultural vibe. Tower Hamlets in general you can find places not a million miles from central and quite cheap- try Whitechapel, Stepney Green, Limehouse, Shadwell etc..

I couldn't live there again for some time, too busy for me but enjoy it!

Go to Camden. Fuck the rest of it.

I hate London, people are rude and it's way too expensive.

Hehe, Camden is indeed a fucking awesome place, but it's in central london making it rather expensive.. outskirts would be better 'cos although the tube sucks, it is (fairly) cheap if ya got an Oyster card.

There is that.. it's like boot shop - piercing studio - headshop - bootshop - piercing studio - cafe -... etc.

Still a really fun place, the market stalls are a lot more unique and interesting.

I don't like Camden either. Too many tourists and the market isn't very good. Spitalfields on the other hand is awesome!

Since living here I've had an increasing disdain for tourists who stand on the left of escalators.

That's one of the most annoying things about the tube.. bloody tourists that either can't or don't read the 'stand on the right' signs  especially if you're on a long escalator.
