okay, I am epileptic, my sister is epileptic (recently diagnosed, a-tonic seizures) and, tonight, my nephew, almost three, went to the E.R. with a febrile seizure. he had a fever of 102.6, and he had a seizure. and, febrile seizures aren't epilepsy. but, children who have them are more likely to be epileptic it doesn't make me feel at all warm inside that he has "staring spells" and his body temperature can go a little weird when he has not had enough sleep. this sucks fuck seizures today has been, the scariest day of my life.
Sorry about that, if not for your own medical history I would be less concerned as kids can change and grow out of things as thier systems change but yeah. Keep your fingers crossed, keep close eye on them and do all you can!
I had several febrile seizures as a child...I also had many, many staring spells where I would seem as if I were in a daze, however, I would "come to" when someone spoke my name, so supposedly that wouldn't constitute as seizure activity. When I had my grand mal seizures after I had the twins, I was told that they occured due to the H.E.L.L.P. syndrome and Toxemia I had. However, I was concerned that perhaps I had always been more prone to having seizures due to some of my past history. The doctors did admit that it made me a bit more suseptible, but they did not consider what happened to be to be due to epilepsy. I'm pretty positive that my oldest son had a febrile seizure when he was 2 years old. He had been running a fever throughout the day, and when I was on the phone with the doctor's office, I was holding him in my arms and all of a sudden his eyes rolled back in his head, then closed, and he was limp. I panicked. I mean, I was absolutely terrified. I was able to rouse him quickly, but he seemed really out of it. My younger son was diagnosed with Sleep Myoclonus at 5 weeks old. He would have these jerking fits during sleep, and it was extremely difficult to rouse him. The neurologist said he would outgrow it, and he did. However, I worry at times because he too has many staring spells. But, like me, if we say his name, he'll snap out of it. So I don't believe that would be seizure. He does have a tremor in his hands, but only when he's using them, and it doesn't happen all of the time, and never when he's at rest. The ped thinks it could be an Essential Tremor, which is nothing serious, however if the tremor causes much difficulty in performing activities, they can administer Beta Blockers to help. Anyway, he's got an appointment with the pediatric neurologist next week to further evaluate the tremor. But I must say I'm a bit nervous, worried that they'll find that he has seizures of some type. I'm really sorry about your sister and your nephew.
my daughter, kai, had febrile seizures. they were terrifying, but sort of a different deal. my aunt was pistol whipped when she was young and started having seizures. my brother in law had them pretty bad. what a complete pain in the ass. sorry about your nephew. i hope he's one of the lucky ones.
