What's the difference between a GED and a High School Diploma? I mean, aren't they basically the same? Aren't the 'oppertunites' the same with a GED? Suposely the GED is a bit lower than a dipolma, but it doesn't make much of a difference does it? I'm not planning on going to a 4 year college or anything and I'm not planning to go to college forever and to only stay in one career. I am a senior in high school now, but I haven't even gone to a day of school this year, because I was just thinking to get a GED instead. And if anything, I might go to college but not to do those 2 years of general studies. But yea, thanks to anyone who replies! :H

I got my GED, and so far, it hasn't kept me from doing anything that I could have done with a regular diploma.... besides going to graduation... :(

Oh....well thanks for replying! I dont really care about my graduation..because I have been to them before and they are BORING. However, prom sounds nice. But I can just go with my friends or something, because you CAN invite guests to prom. So thats cool. but anyways....is it hard or easy to get the GED? I have no idea about it! Tell me about it! Thanks!

It was a breeze for me... I was the first one finished and I got the highest score... :D It's really just basic stuff. I didn't even have to study. You can take a GED class if you want, it wouldn't hurt, but you can probably just get a book at the library or even find some kind of study guide online.

Oh wow that sounds easy! I usually never study for big tests like that anyways! How long did it take? Do you go to college now or what?

GED is pretty easy... I passed it with flying colors with barely a Sophmore education.
Has a bunch of sections: math, reading, english, social studies and science.
Don't even worry about the social studies, science or reading because it's pretty much all "read this paragraph and then answer questions about it" stuff.
The math part was ok...compared to what they have on the ACT it's like kindergarten math... I nearly flunked math on the ACT and got in the 76% percentile on it on the GED.

You'll need it if you intend to get financial aid....govie won't cough up to non-GED/ diploma people.

Getting into a two year with it is no problem...dunno about 4 year colleges.
Taking the SAT or ACT might be a good idea too, but most 2-years have an option to test you themselves for placement purposes, so you can usually get by without an ACT or SAT.

As for jobs..I couldn't tell ya...
I've fallen into the realm of self employed.

I also got my GED. I had to take a test before hand though, and since I passed it I didnt have to take any ged classes and I could just take the test. I dunno if that test is only required in my state or what, but......I thought the GED was pretty simple. I think you have to make a certain score otherwise you have to start college at a community college instead of a university......but I took the test in 1998 so I dont really remember the specifics. Anyway, I am glad that I did that as opposed to high school....I dont regret it at all. It hasnt stopped me from doing anything or getting a good job or anything like that.....
If I can even remember correctly....it took some hours......there was like a lunch break for the group and everything but it wasnt too too long. Anyway, good luck if you decide to do it!

My oldest son took the GED test a few yrs ago and is now in the Army. I have known others who have gone to 4-yr colleges and never had to show prove of GED scores for school or jobs.

The GED is really easy. I passed it in like the 8th grade. If you want to take it I'd suggest going to your old school and talking to the guidance counslor. There should also be an adult education center in your area. The GED is going to let me go to college early, so I think it's great. Good luck!
