I came to Woodstock to Die in 1969 - an angel saved my life....
I knew it would happen. It's 3:am in the morning and I can't sleep. I'm thinking about the trip I made back to Bethel NY in August 2008, to the site of the original Woodstock Festival. I had arrived here once before in 1969, now 39 years later I embraced the same woman then a girl who had saved my life. I had arrived upon the shores of White Lake way back then, on an old junker motorcycle, a suicide machine as battered and beat up as my own mind and body. The fact that either the bike or myself made the hundred-mile trip the first time was quite remarkable in itself.
I was a broken young man. One who set out to save the world only to become overcome by the waves of evil and despair which pervaded the reality I found myself in, in 1960's America. I was deaf to the phrase "I love you" from those that mattered most, I was dumb to the ways of the world as I emerged from an autistic mind set, and blinded to any possibility of overcoming the deep feelings of angst and alienation which weighed down heavily upon me. It was upon that very bike, stoned and unable to see clearly through darkened sun- glasses I hurled myself at incredible speeds towards wooden telephone poles at night on the winding road that ran through my mind and where I actually travelled in the real world. Knowing that a centimeter closer and it would be all over.
I was a seminarian who had faltered, ill equipped to battle the existential windmills of grief placed before me. I carried the hopes and aspirations of my monsignor, my parish, and the small Village of Irvington NY upon my shoulders: and I was losing the battle. Unable to fathom the chaos before me (civil unrest, assassinations, war) I drugged and drank myself into oblivion falling backwards into locked church doors-ways in the middle of the night.
And as I look at this picture I am brought to tears. There in front of me stands a woman, now a grandmother. Behind her looms the Bethel Woods Museum, on the very spot we spent three days in the mud together. She is checking in on the grandkids - our grandkids! The irony is quite profound.
Stuck in traffic on my bike off 17b in August of 1969 a young seventeen girl opened the door and exited the car in front of me. As she walked shoeless toward me, her waist-long hair blowing gently in the breeze little did I know my life would be changed forever? She asked if I would take her down the side of the road on my bike, to wait for the traffic to clear. I agreed and rode toward the festival site with a shoeless Maria. We waited for hours, the car never made it. After several attempts to locate the car, we embraced each other, and rode together into the concert. The rest is history.

Isn't Woodstock supposed to be three days, you know: 3days of peace, love and music. So what's all this 2 day talk? AND if it's gonna be called Woodstock it HAS to have some of the original line up. I'm thinking stuff like Grateful Dead or The Band.

PS. Guys when Woodstock cost 12 dollars back then, it's equal to 95$ now so, even though wew all wish it would be free, 100$ isn't a bad price.

Well, there was a press release that said it would include some of the original lineup, along with today's big acts. It's also going to be free. And the slogan is no longer "3 Days Of Peace And Music." It's "For A Green World, It's A Free Concert From Now On."

I love the updated logo, by the way.

The first thing they could do to make it good is not invite skid magnets like Korn, Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit. Not only do they make crap music, they also make people angry.

i know that the past reincarnations of woodstock have been brutal, but im being optimistic for this one. theyre tryin to get a bunch of the originals and then top jam bands of tday so i think itll be a good time. im only 2 states away so if i wanna leave its no biggie.

    Here's something interesting:

Apparently, there was a Woodstock '89 that spontaneously happened on the site in, you guessed it, 1989. Some guy brought a guitar to the original site and started playing, and then other people came, joined in, watched, etc... until 30,000 people and a couple of lesser known bands were there, playing, trading food, etc. They ended up bringing in a stage and lighting as well.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodstock_'89

Definitely sounds better than the crapstivals that followed.

I would def go, a few options I think that would bring a good crowd to woodstock 09 might be....

    STS9
    Phil Lesh and Friends
    Moe.
    Umphreys Mcgee
    Les Claypool
    Keller Williams
    My Morning Jacket
    Pearl Jam
    Jack Johnson
    Sigur Ros
    Bassnectar
and thats just to name a few that come to mind, they could do woodstock 09 right if they put their minds to it, lets hope so, I was sickened by the things that happened at 99, you'd never see that at All Good, Wakarusa, Bonnaroo, Gathering of the Vibes ect ect..

    Great lineup. Except Pearl Jam.

It's a great theory but it will turn into a commercial piece of crap. Save the original, it always has.

They NEED to have RHCP play. They're one of the most peaceful, open-minded bands today. They could play all of their old songs. And they'd do an amazing hendrix cover.
really, bring back the love. There's so much rape and negativity going on at these things.
And the bandlist in 99 sucked. Who the fuck wants KoRn to be playing at a woodstock?
There's still The Dead, Neil Young, Grace Slick, The Moody Blues (I love them)

KoRn and Limp Bizkit don't promote peace. The Dead will, though.
    ANYONE WITH ME?!!!

I was a big, big fan of Pearl Jam. Twenty years ago. When Eddie Vedder decided he was Jim Morrison they became another parody. Passe.

It's nice that you all want to change this festival but the sooner you realize that the only control you have is whether or not you buy a ticket, the better. The promoters are in charge. I'm sure it will be a nice show. Just not something I'm interested in patronizing.

No venue has yet been chosen.
    No bands have been signed.
No where in any of those links does it say it will be free of charge.

Let me know when one of you gets all that worked out, huh?

if for no other reason, its a long time till august and i personally believe things will be much different then than they are now.

hard times are coming and come summer things are going to get ugly..
