"you spin me right round baby right round......." i grew up on it, i have to love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 80s was a wonderful time in music... Pretty much all good Metal generated then... the begining of U2, the end of Queen, Blondie, some Bowie, etc, etc, etc...
I love 80's music. But when you think about it, those musicians grew up listening to stuff from the 60's and 70's. And then then they got a hold of synthesizers, and they created THAT. What the hell happened?
It was quite a decade for music. Some of it was good, some of it made me wonder what the fuck it was.
IF YOU LEAVE, DONT LEAVE NOW, PLEASE DONT TAKE MY HEART AWAYYYYY lol, I dont like OMD, but I like some of those bands you listed. Dont forget Depeche Mode and the Smiths. OHH and INXS
some 80's music was (is) cool.. im listening to the best of new order right now.... as a whole, i have such a bitter/sweet relationship with 80's music. or should i say... love/hate???
I think that popular music in the eighties was pretty bad, for the most part. There were several exceptions, such as Prince, U2, R.E.M., The Police, etc., but the trends for music at the time, including hair metal and synth-pop were most often bad (though, I must say that some synth-pop can be a guilty pleasure to listen to, lol). One thing that I've noticed about some cheesy eighties pop songs, such as 'Don't You Want Me' by the Human League and 'Take On Me' by A-Ha is that I actually love most of the vocal melodies in them, but that the production and instrumentation in general just completely ruin it for me. Many of the melodies in this kind of music are very naive and whimsical, and often times in a way that could be potentially good, if the vocal stylings and instrumentation works. Prince is a seminal figure in the history of rock and roll, as far as I'm concerned. In the last few months, the influence that his music has had on me has been incredible. I'll talk about him more later, if I can find time to edit this post. But now I have to go.
there are some eighties bands that i like ie, The Cure, REM,tears for fears, talking heads,Bon Jovi,Gn' R etc etc. However, there were some REALLY bad eighties music...ie, the first appearance of Kylie Minogue and jason donnavon, amongst other really crap music at the time( argh!!!! thank god i was born at the end of the eighties!!!!) lol. The eighties were alright for music, but they were overshadowed by the politics of the time - call me biased coz i grew up through this period but i think the 90's onwards were better musically. We had oasis, the wannadies, the first appearance of both Travis and Stereophonics, and we also had The Verve aswell!!! peace and love xxxxxxx
I love the 80's stuff, GN'R, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Metallica, the 80's music is awesome, well so is the 70's and 60s, but yeah man. Peace, love, and rock n' roll !!!
Overall the 80's is my least favourite musical decade, of the last 60-70 years anyway. But it can't be dismissed with a simple mention of Human League or something. There were some amazing albums released here, as well as debuts from many a quality band. There was The Smiths, The Stone Roses, The Flaming Lips, The Jam, The Pixies. As well as the likes of Lou Reed who was still putting out some great stuff through the 80's. Also Tom Waits released "Swordfishtrombones" in 1983, one of the best albums ever made! Brian Eno was into his ambient phase and even the marvellous Pink Floyd put out one of their finest records, "The Final Cut". And that's not even mentioning Dire Straits
The Pixies!! they were absolutly my fav part of the 80's, not to mention pink floyd, the smiths, the cure, van halen...
