Would you buy something on ebay from a seller who didn't want to use paypal?

i've had to deal with PayPal from both sides of the coin, as a buyer and as a seller, and i've got to tell you,

    those folks are infuriating!

Whatever "protections" you think they are giving you? Your credit card company will provide you with MORE of them, as well as (compared to PayPal) EXPEDITED service on any problems.

As a seller, i can tell you that they are a rip-off, deluxe, and don't really give a care about their customers, the sellers.

Not only that, but PayPal was hacked just recently ~> someone got into our bank account through our PayPal account, and helped themselves to some of our money ~ not a lot, mind you ($50), but we had to wait and wait and wait for them to credit it back to us. And any thought of them paying any NSF fees on any bounced checks that resulted? Yeah. Right.

    Bottom line ~

i look for sellers who DON'T use PayPal. If my credit card isn't good enough,

    oh, well ~

don't guess i needed whatever it was THAT badly... :p

Sure. I'm just worried he complains to ebay about me, I don't know what ebay are like I heard they are very easy to delete peoples accounts.

I have no reason to suspect he is being fraudulent here anyway, he is just being a cock.

I accept paypal, checks and money orders but I send everything with delivery confirmation so I can prove to ebay/paypal I sent it and it arrived (it arrived someplace the post office ect said it did).

Unfortunately, you being a newbie buyer and him being a disgruntled PayPal customer is the only problem i see:

You're asking too many questions (to his mind),

and he's upset because you probably aren't the first one to confront him about not accepting PayPal.

(That's funny ~ i knew exactly what "pitching practice" was ~ my brother is a Scout Master, too. ;) )

If you really want the tent, email or call him and appologize ~ "i'm a newbie... a bunch of my internet friends made me ask all those questions... :p i truly trust you and understand that you don't like being ripped-off by PayPal, i just didn't understand all the ins-and-outs of using that service..." Like that.

Also, you might want to check on the protections Ebay guarantees.

If you opt for sending a Money Order,

pay for a Return Receipt Requested post-card ~ the post office will remove it when they deliver the letter, and you will have self-addressed it, so it can go into your file for this transaction as proof of delivery of the payment. The Money Order receipt would also go into this file.

If he just refuses to listen,

ask one of us to bid on it for you! ;)

He really doesn't sound like a bad guy ~ just sort of grouchy...

Fair enough, I was going to offer an olive branch when I came home, and say that we are both being very stubborn, and misunderstood each other, I want to buy, he wants to sell, we both said things in the heat of the moment so why not just forget about it and make the transaction.

Then I came home to find an email telling me to stop emailing him and calling me a pest.

    Fuck him.

Well, someone has outbid me, so end of.

He may only have been a little grouchy in the beginning, but as far as I am concerned on a deal like this it's not good enough.

Yeah, well until you get up close and personal with some of the problems ~ lost Money Order; ripped off by seller; etc. ~

you have NO IDEA of the amount of heartache and heartburn you're going to have to go through, just to get your money back...

    True.

Right now, folks are really concerned with whatever money they have,

and chancy transactions are definitely a game for people that can afford to wait a year to get their money back,

    so,

    i'm with you ~

    Up his. ;)

    Yeah right on.

I found a site that is selling them new for not that much more than I would have had to pay for the second hand one anyway, if you include the missing tent pegs and the P&P.

Don't know if the person who outbid me by 5 quid and won was his friend, or a genuine bidder, but as you say, fuck him. If he can't be polite and reassuring, even if i might be be slightly annoying by asking lots of questions, then why the fuck should I trust him enough to send him 165 quid?

I have now blocked him from bidding on anything I sell.

It's all experience I guess, ebay is full of morons.
