My religious beliefs have nothing to do with this post. However one day when I was high I happen to stumble upon the thought of what it would be like when Jesus returned. Then that lead to wondering would he really come back and be cool with the state of the world. Or would he be angered at how down hill this planet has gone. which lead to since he is all knowing then he already knows/knew the world would look like this, and if so would he ever really come back for his people that he died on the cross for have totally gone and ****ed up this world. I don't know what do you think?

My hypothesis on this subject is as follows,

I don't suspect that he will return literally in flesh in blood but rather that his return will actually be when we return to him through our own enlightenment.

    Just a hypothesis though

My thoughts are.... We have never ever witnessed people being dead for 3 days then somehow magically coming back to life, then, somehow magically defying the laws of gravity 40 days later and flying into the sky, un-aided by any flying apparatus, and somehow continue to live above 35000 feet above sea level. Without any evidence of this ever happening, we have no rational reason to believe it did. If someone were to tell you this story happening today, you'd think they were nuts, and rightfully so. The story was written some 20 to 40 years (depending on what scholars you believe) after the alleged incident tool place, long after the story couldn't be verified. What other reason is there to believe this story ever happened? It goes against all we know about the phisiology of the human body and it goes against all we know about the laws of gravity. To accept this story on faith is irrational in light of what we do know about the various sciences it goes against.

I tend to agree with this in a way.
I think, if Jesus did actually say any such things, he probably meant that we are going to confront another catastrophe (either natural or generated by man) and are looking at another potential leap in the evolution of our minds. I mean it could happen, it probably happened a few times before.
But as far as Revelations goes, I dont see how a massive Earthly spring cleaning could have opinions on who goes and who stays, and I dont have anything to say about the dying and raising from the dead other than some disciples probably saw him in a meditative vision and the story got blown out of proportion into something fantastical. Jesus, to me, seems like he was just a man who plugged into God, saw some tripped out shit, and was taken to be something extraordinary due to peoples fear of direct mystical experience and need to receive affirmation for superstition, as well as the comforting self-assurance that their 'knowledge' of the transcendental is uniquely authentic.
Even my boss twists my words around 5 minutes after saying something, I cant imagine what whisper down the lane would be like after 2000 years.

Truthfully and extensively study the physical reality in it's entirety just to see what comes of it.

Plato called the whole of existence, "A likely story"

Smack yourself in the head and tell me what comes of it. If it didn't hurt, you aren't doing it right. Denying our reality is about as irrational as believing in the existence of Jewish zombies.

Were Jesus to walk down the street in jeans and a faded t-shirt, somebody would call him a hippy.

    We're the real "chosen people".

The Jewish people don't think of oral history the same way we do.

They were VERY careful about mistakes, and with God to guide them, they didn't make any ~ at least, not in the facts of their history.

Where a bunch of us could get together and play that game where you whisper something into the person beside you's ear, and the end person would have a completely DIFFERENT version,

the Jewish people aren't like that. It MATTERS to them, because not only is it their history, it's their lineage.

Actually, if you keep up with science, you'll find that more and more, the scientific statements in the Bible are being proven:

Drink! It's GOOD for you ~ wine is an EXCELLENT relaxant, AND it's good for your blood!

i think it's amazing that the Jews were forbidden to eat pork, and science figures out that pigs are the closest thing to humans, in a lot of ways, for experimental purposes...

You know, i've been wrapped around the axle over a personal situation ~ my Mom is in the hospital; my Dad is a control freak AND an alcoholic, who doesn't seem to be happy unless someone else is despondant, and that someone else is usually me; blah-bitty blah, blib-bitty blow.

God instructed us not to disobey our parents, right? Not to give 'em heart attacks and such, eh?

    But,

He also instructed parents not to bring their children to rage, which only damages them.

    So what do you do?

Bow down to Dad? (btw ~ any bowing down? It's never going to be enough.)

Or stand up and remove the evil from your life?

Oh, i WANT to just walk away, believe me, but that isn't how He made me. So now, i'm going through trying to placate the unreasonable, and i feel like i'm losing some of myself in the process ~ the parts of me that want things to be FAIR and RIGHT, and that KNOW what those words actually mean.

Humility truly sux, folks. But if you love other people, you DO bow down to them.

    THAT's respect.

    THAT's true love (agape).

THAT's learning to live under authority.

    i WISH!

But i do think we hippies come closest to the compassionate, loving model that Jesus showed us ~

and i truly pray that ALL of us will meet up for a Hardy Party in the Gard-y of the Lord.

If you feel this strongly about it, STUDY SCIENCE!

Prove me wrong scientifically, then attempt to explain why every great thinker known to human society, spiritual and secular, has pointed the way away from materialism.

I'm not denying our reality in the relative sense(the sense your speaking of when you told me to smack myself), Sure that is real relatively, But I am suggesting that its definitely not the only reality. there is something more than just what you perceive. I know this from experience, unfortunately you do not or else you would not defend materialism.

    Is it really irrational?
I mean think about it man, over 90% of the world practices some sort of religion, and all religions have some connotations towards another if not many other realities(heaven, hell,Nirvana,Tao) So really if your gonna pull the whole materialism ideas then at least for one thing study as much as modern day science knows about it and then defend your argument. I mean because that's what your relying on right? Science?
