Would you buy something on ebay from a seller who didn't want to use paypal?

It's something I've been looking to buy for ages, and if no-one else bids in three days I will get it for less than half retail price, practically unused.

Seller has 100% feedback so seems genuine enough.

What you think, the item was relisted because the last person who won it didn't want to pay without going through paypal.

    Should I risk it?

Ever since ebay bought out paypal there has been massive fee increases on paypals site so several sellers are against paypal.

It has reached a point that to sell an item on ebay and use paypal to recieve payment you can loose around 20% in fees.

If they have good feedback, you pay with a money order and send the payment with delivery confirmation (like .75) then its good.

how many previous sells? that affects the 100% rating.

but if it's something you really want and you're getting it for a good price and you get a good feeling about the person, i say go for it. just don't do a money order, cause they get lost in the mail sometimes.

I'll probably do it buy bank transfer if I do it, so there is evidence of the transaction.

Paypal are a bit steep, I don't blame people for being put off.

Hope no-one else bids thens and i win, I'll let you know, cheers guys.

He has plenty of +feedback, and he just sold some other outdoors equipment in the last month and got good feedback, so I reckon it's safe.

    yes.

all sellers should stop using paypal.

as long as the seller requested something legit, i would go for it.

of course, i will ask for a discount

It's a tent. I'll tell you which one if I win it, they are in high demand these ones and they always fetch a good price when they turn up on ebay.

In business , I say , if the terms are shit , the seller is shit.

I dont know what the feedback says.Is it all fake feedback by him?Or has he recently passed to the "Dark Side"?

But there are slimebags who spend their whole lives snaring the 1 in 100 who agrees to prepayment by T/T.But ...?

If he's got loads of good feedback, you're probably okay. Feedback can really affect your busines on ebay, so regular sellers will do alot to protect their score. I do alot of internet purchasing and only got shafted once by an overseas company. I've been shafted by local stores much more often.

I'd say just go with your gut, and don't risk more than you can comfortably lose.

    Cheers

There's another thing called "pump it and dump it".
Build up a business with credibility and credit lines and cash from the public.
Then pull the plug and disappear with it .

I know a 20 billion dollar brokerage co that did just that.
All their ad literature said "we're the most trusted , blah blah"

Sriously I wouldnt do it.( Think of Iceland!)
    Pay the escrow.

Be skeptical of a seller requesting a cashiers check to be sent to a post office box. Chances are good you'll never see the money again and the item, especially if it was a big ticket item.

Ebay accounts that have been dormant for months that suddenly come to life are questionable. Often times, those types of accounts have been hijacked. Hijackers like dormant accounts, because the owner of that account won't notice when it has been hijacked. The account may have had superb feedback.

You can also check the address of the seller's account in Ebay and compare it with the address that the seller is asking you to send the money. If they don't match, it's suspicious. Some hijackers are so careless that they forget to change the address of the account that they hijacked.

As a sidenote, if you list an item as a vehicle in Ebay Motors, prepare to be hit with a $100 fee. That will happen even if you list a $5 gas cap or motorbike frame in Ebay Motors as a vehicle.

If you look at low-cost motor vehicles in Ebay Motors (mopeds, small scooters), you'll notice that many are listed in the parts category. That eliminates the $100 fee.
