Hi all, just a quick question.

i have about 16 cm's length of hair over all, and i want to get started really bad now.

So how much shorter and so would my hair become if i got started now with backcombing, anyone got experience of dreading short hair and can tell abit about it.

Sorry im confused, do you mean your average hair length is 16cm or all your hair together?
If its seriously short then I you can backcomb, but you will see more progress naturally :)
    Remember don't use wax!

I started with 5 inches on the top of my head (6/7inches at the bottom, due to a layered haircut.. Oohh I hate hairdressers!! Never again thankfully!!) thats just under 15cm I think... And mine have turned out fine :)

I've had mine for 7ish months, and have only lost about a cm cus of backcombing, and at the back ive lost maybe 2cm with skrinkage, but they are the beasts, so I'm not complaining hehe.

Mine stuck up a bit at the beginning, maybe for like 2 or 3 weeks, but if you wear a hat looads that'll bring that time down to a week (recently found out ;D) I had a neat trick too, i stuck two beads on my two front dreads, pushed the beads right to the root and they still stick up like antennae!! :D

So yea, I haven't lost much length at all ^^ I still can't stick my dreads behind my ears, but they are still a decent length for short hair :)

    Hope that helped... ^^

    Great feedback!

Sounds like your hair is the exact replica of my, its a bit shorter at top due the the haircut i had, and longer at the bottom,

think im gonna call my friends and throw a little dread party and try to make a few dreads and see how they come out, and if they dont lose to much lenght we'll do the whole head.

ill post some pics when/if they are made!

    :cheers2:

    Thanks ^^

Hehe yea, I had a stupid short layered cut thing, I looked so much better with long hair... Roll on long dreads!! I'll post a *before* pic in one of my albums xD

Ohh sounds like fun :D Wish I had a dread party... I did them all on my lonesome :(

Someone at my uni did something like that, she has two dreads, rest normal hair. She has one at the back of her head and one above her ear ^^ Looks alright lol, But I bet (hope) you'll go the whole hog!! I really wouldn't worry about loosing length, I prefer me with long hair, and my hair is gonna get a little shorter but I'm sacraficing long hair for dreads :D And the dreads will get longer eventually :) And anyway, You won't know if you've lost much length untill sorta 7/8/12 months in with the shrinkage, so meh xD I couldn't wait that long myself :p

    ^^

yeah, should have shaved all off and then let the hair grow in its own pace and not like its now all made up, but in 2 weeks will we throw the party and start dreading them up while watching sum movies and so on, will be a killer night i hope :)

mine i started at 2 inches about naturaly no backcombing
they did stick out lil funny at 1st but behaved by the time they grew an inch
once theyrepast the shrinkage stage they just grow and grow never needing trims to get rid of split ends and dammage
they'll be to your waist before u know it

I started my dreads at about 3-4 inches of hair. Right now I'm at about 5 months, and in desperate need of another picture update, since they've started looking a lot better. The problem with short dreads is them sticking everywhere. Also back-combing them can be burdensome, and it is nearly impossible to roll them yourself.
