Hi I am looking to start growing marijuana. I have a shop that I use for working on motorcycles that I can stow stuff away in. Right now I have a few bags of seeds from different grades of marijuana I have purchased over the past few weeks or so. I have done SOME reading on what I could find but it seems that most information is for more advanced growing. I am looking to grow 1 plant at a time untill I get to my brothers house and set a nice room up with him. I am looking to keep it simple to avoid detection. I have a cardboard box line with aluminum foil ready to go. It is a decent size right now but I can make it larger when the time comes. I have a few seeds in wet, warm paper towel sitting in the rafters of my shop where it is warm and dark. The inside of my shop is around 70 degrees so in the rafters it is probably a little high which from what I understand is the ideal temperature. The shop is heated by a kerosene heater and a small space heater. I may turn off the kerosene and put another electrical one in. I will keep a close look at the seeds for the next few days, should I put them in the soil I have right away once I see the shell cracking or wait a little bit? I will be aquiring a grow light tommorow, is one enough for a small box w/ aluminum foil on it? I have soil from my mother, she uses it to plant tomatoes and other vegatables and keeps it in a sealed bin so I would imagine it is good enough. I can rig the light up to sit on the box as long as I want, should it be on all day or only for a few hours a day? Once I put the seeds in the soil and in the box, should pot be watered every day, if so how many times? I am only looking to try one plant at a time for now so I would imagine one or maybe two lights will be sufficient, no? Is there anything major I am missing right now? Any help full suggestions? Thanks and please be kind. Edit: By the way, my profile age is incorrect, I am 16 if that matters.
plant the seeds when you see the root is about 5mm - 1cm long. one light should be enough but that does depend on the watt of the light - ideally should be above 150w i would not advice that you use aliminium foil as it may cause hot spots on your plant, instead use flat white paint or mylar if you can afford it ( if you do end up using aliminium foil use the less shiny side) the light should be on 18 hours for the vegitation stage and off for the rest of the day. During harvesting it should be on for 12 hours and off for 12. Do not over water the plant when it is small give it a few drops once every few days and increase as it gets bigger (before i used to grow i was adviced to only keep the soil moist however they used to thrive much more when i used to give them a lot of water so it does depend) You do need to do your research though, even if yuou are only growing one plant. There is much more you need to know.
okay, here are some basics: 1) if germinating in paper, dont let the root get too long of the planting can break it easily. I prefer to saok in water overnight then plant. seeds are made to naturally sprout in dirt, you shouldnt need paper towel 2) for a sinle plant, you will want 300w equivelent CFL lighting (3 x 23w curly bulbs) veg with daylight/cool white bulbs for 18 hr/day 3) if you dont want to use foil and cant afford/too lazy for paint/mylar etc, you can surround the plant in double-layered sheets of blank printer paper. the white sheets will provide moderate reflection/containment of light. 4) dont worry about the flowering stage yet. once you get the plant going, youll be able to slowly amass all the necessary knowledge to tackle it when it arrives. the only things that i can truly stress; 1) DO NOT FERTILIZE UNTIL THE 3rd WEEK FROM SPROUTING. the seed and the soil are sufficient nutrients till then. 2) ONLY USE CFL, HPS, OR MH LIGHTING. incandescent (normal bulb), halogen, floodlights, etc are essentially worthless in terms of light energy.
