that's fucked up; when my timing belt broke i'm pretty sure it was only $100 or so...

definitely a good way to deal with a broken car though.

only $100? what kind of car was it?

if they really wanted to do it up they should have rolled it down a hill or off an interstate bridge or something

i don't remember; it may have been more but i know i was broke and basically unemployed at the time (it actually happened on my first day of delivering pizzas) and i still had no problem paying it, so it must have been fairly cheap.

    it was a ford ranger.

must not have been an interference engine or you know a nice mechanic. i had timing belt snap on my '88 accord years ago. i totally thought i was fucked cause a valve job isn't cheap but turns out that 88-89 models were non-interference. now i check to see and make sure i keep on top of timing belt changes.

No...in the cab. It was like 35 degrees out. But he was like...6'2". So...epic fail.

yeah that would be an epic fail. although you're short enough you can prolly pull off some pretty wild tight place maneuvers.

interference engines have the timing set pretty specifically so if the timing gets off, say the belt slips or breaks, the pistons come up and smash the valves all to hell. it can total a car if it's older.

yeah, i must not have had that then. i'm pretty sure all they did was replace the belt and it was good to go.

I was just going to say, that a timing belt on a 1987 vehicle does need replacing after that amount of time anyway. Plus, the damage to the car was lame. Why destroy something you loved apparently?
