    I got a question.

Yesterday, after opening my root/sacral chakra in about 20 minutes of meditation, I decided to listen to a youtube Shamanic Journey soundtrack (just percussion). I followed the advice of the soundtracks narrator who read out the 'story' (You are walking, find a clearing, see a stone of importance to you, see a path, see an image, it is your spirit guide, what is it?) sorta thing. [If you really need i could try to find it]

Anyway, I did that, and when I got to the image, All i saw was dashing colours in a small spot in my vision (eyes closed). I was in a medium-light state of trance, and though I could not make out the shape, to me it resembled a bird circling high above in the sky. I asked my spirit guides to show me a sign of what the animal was, and today, while skipping school and smoking some dope, I saw a stick about 1M long, lying 3 feet ahead of me, parallel to my direction. At the top of the stick, on the ground, not attached to it, was a black, copper, grey, and black feather, looking as though the stem of it had been jammed into the stick (though it wasn't, just for a referance of direction). Is this a sign? Does it mean my spirit guide is a bird of sorts? Does it mean the feather is at the top of my totem? Quite confused here.

If you found it after asking to find it, then yes..it is a sign. All things are fated events, put into motion by another event. You ask for a sign, you get a sign...now what it means is up to you...I can not say.

Hi Spiritchalist. You mentioned that you asked you spirit guides, then later you ask if your spirit guide is a bird of sorts. How do you see your spirit guides? Have they appeared to you as an animal? Is this the first time you have seen an animal on your journeys?

The anthropologist, Harner, and others say that when you meet you spirit animal, it will show itself from several angles. Perhaps on your next journey that will happen. Or perhaps the feather is a different meaning. As Heron says----it really is up to you. It is something that you will have to find out for yourself. If you have a line of communication with your spirit guides, you can learn the meaning from them.

But is it a sign? It is certainly a synchronicity---Jung, who coined the term, says that synchronicities are when 2 unrelated occurences coincidentally happen at an exact point of time to create a significant meaning to the observer (well maybe I messed up his definition---but you get the picture). You search for an answer after a vision of a flying spirit animal of sorts, and there is a feather strategically placed. A synchronicity is a sign.

Going one step further, many indigenous traditions believe any feather to be both a gift and a message from the spirit world. It radiates a spirit energy which is partly why it is so popular for use of these people. Those attune to the traditiona path will certainly take not of feathers.

Before I walked the traditional paths, I would hear lots of stories of synchronicities----I generally assumed that Native Americans and others were reading too much into a natural event, or misinterpreting a strange coincidence. My wife is a Filipina and was more in touch with nature than myself---she too had an occaisional synchronicity that part of me would write off as a strange coincidence.

But once I found the traditional path, I have learned that these synchronicities are very common on this path. Part of me still couldn't believe these strange wierd coincidences---some were subtle like a feather on the ground. Others were so blatant and obvious that they were hard to write off as coincidence. But I still had doubts----until the spirit world gave me a very powerful sign that I could not deny---but that is another story...

A well known Christian psychic defines a synchronicity as a unique sign from God telling you that you are at the place you are meant to be, doing what you are supposed to be doing. She then goes on to say that these signs are rare and subtle and should be appreciated when you see them. I thought, that's too bad for these people, because Native Americans and other indigenous people have these signs all the time. Of course, with their focus on nature, they are more open to recognizing these signs.

Starting a few month before I met my spirit animal---a wolf----I would run into foxes all the time. They would run through my neighborhood at night, and would be near my yard when I would happen to look outside. I'd see them driving through the mountains. I'd see them by my office----I had never seen so many foxes in all my life. Perhaps they were the proxy for the wolf, because wolves are very rare in Colorado today.

I had no idea what my spirit animal would be, I wondered if it would be a fox, but I had no idea---in fact I was really just attempting the spirit jorney only as an experiment to see what it was like---I didn't know if anything would happen. But I met a wolf, and definitely knew it was my spirit animal. After that I generally did not see foxes that mch anymore---just the rare occaision when I am out late, just like anyone else. But sometimes I do see them and know that there is a significance for my seeing many of them. Birds and feathers too have been a sign for me for various things.

Yes Spiritchalist, it certainly is a sign---that feather was laying there, meant for you. If you are new on the path, than probably one of the first items of business is for you to meet your spirit guide, or guides. SO it certainly could be connected to that---but that is something you will need to find out.

    Wow, Thanks for the input.

I just smoked a fairly massive amount of good medical weed (wink wink), and looked on youtube for a 15 minute Theta Wave Drumming soundtrack thing-a-ma-bob. It seemed to help me a lot.

At first I just felt my body being physically gone, not numb or anything, and i felt like my neck grew taller, though I had no neck. I saw a running figure, not sure if 'twas a bear, fox, cat, or what. I saw it from about 20 different angles before I focused and let go enough to realize it was a bear. I asked then, if the feather meant a bird, No was the answer, It was the sign of the wind element at the top of your totem. I was just in awe at this communication, and thanked them, danced with them, and then left.

    I'm still in shock kinda.

The bear---very nice----Mother bear was commonly a healing spirit (not to choose the gender of your spirit guide for you, or make suggestions of why it is your spirit guide, but, that was one of the common traits...)

Yes----it is somewhat of a shocking event----hard to believe how powerful it can be, or how well it works in this day and age of post-empirical objectivism. I too was very excited but in a feeling of shock. It was hard for me to believe what happened.

But not everyone has as strong of an experience. I have heard that some people even experience their animal spirit as almost cartoon-like, until they get to know them better and they reveal more of themselves. But an animal spirit can appear human or whatever depending on your relationship with it, or what you are ready for. ( <---for the benefit of others who may not have the same experience, and are reading this thread).

But I am glad you got your answer, and found your totem spirit as well! Now I might suggest that you find old bear fetishes---look for shapes other than the typical bear standing on it's four legs----try the pose you find and use a repetitive beat (you don't need the voice-over, you already know what to do) to go on your spirit journey. IM me if you can't find the bear fetish, and I will see what kind of images I can find. Of course, on your journey be sure and ask your bear if such a pose is fitting, or for what purposes.

But yor bear should teach what is meant for you...
