    Oh, well

where would one look to fine cheap plastic paneling, preferably 4x8 HDPE or non plasticized PVC.

(something big flat, flexible, but with a reasonable amount of tensile strength)

and, of course, cheaper than quarter inch sheets of plywood

OR, would it be cheaper to get a set of plywood forms, and pour concrete in place for the same application?

my big worry about concrete is that if it's not reinforced, it's tensile strength is utter shit

but, yeah, creative thoughts, for, lets say, lining the walls of a basement? (leaving packed earth intact, placing some kind of a running structure, to be determined upon determining the best cost/benefit material for the walls)

I was thinking cob, but it takes longer to set than cement, and though you COULD accelerate it's setting time, I don't think that is an acceptable option.

I was thinking about how grandpa built his basement, because I saw a bit of construction in the background of a drawing (as it was drawn, TOTALLY wouldn't work) anyway, I want to build a cob home, but I want it to be on/in a mountanside, or at least have a fairly, Complete? basement

anyway, what I am thinking is that something much like the way a yurt is constructed could be used as ancillary support, and keep the basement tidy, thing is I KNOW I am going to try to build this house, and all assigned features as cheaply as possible

so I was wondering if anyone here just happened to know something like this off the bat

I was going with plastic because it's water-tight, lightweight, and has respectable tensile strength

if one were to build a square hall, and then build an egg shaped hallway within the confines of this using spokes, you could probably get away with Really inexpensive, really structurally sound (I'm planning for earthquakes, because lets be honest, we're due) corridor

of course, the rooms themselves would be an entirely separate basket of problems (spokes become fiscally inviable at a certain scale) so, maybe a dome? a six length geodesic dome would be very workable, lots of structural members, but the more facets the dome has the greater it's structural strength, of course, arches have a lot of benefits, and cantilevered pseudo arches

but, like I said, TOTALLY different problem, that I haven't tackled yet

none of these are things that need solving yet, but getting all the information together into one web of thought accelerated problem solving, and allows me to spot flaws before they arrive.

no, I have a measure of expertise with concrete, I can muddle through pouring a small pier and beam foundation, or throw together a stem wall, but, I am concerned that the price of the cement itself, and the rebar that it would almost certainly need would exceed that of synthetic materials that would not only probably be easier to work with, but faster.

home depot is gay and they only have plywood, polystyrene panels and shit like that

a real construction supply store is much better, but I need to find out if I can move laterally out of the spending required by traditional construction solutions.
