you can leave the shell on there.........it will eventually fall off. Also, make sure that you don't let the soil dry out too much. Other than that they are looking good so far.......and be sure to keep the light really close if your using cfl's..........like 1-2in from the tops. If you can keep them from stretching early, you'll thank me later.

    DAY 7

so far 4/6 have sprouted and are all coming along nicely. as for the other two, i've left the glass on their pots hoping they'll sprout, even though its been 7 days in soil. ive been watering them but only very little, <70ml ea every day or so. also, how long should i wait to switch from the 24hr lights on to 18-6?

    Temp: 24 deg C
    Humidity: 35%

although the soil color looks different, its actually the same, for two of the pics the flash went off and the other two didnt... thats all.

Lookin good but just a quick note.........it's better to water the soil thoroughly and let it dry out for a couple days before watering again. They really like having a good amount of time inbetween waterings. About the light, i like to use 24/0 for two weeks then flip to 18/6 for 3-4 weeks then into 12/12 they go.

Okay so its been a while since an update. We had pretty much abandoned them for 2 weeks (nobody was home for the christmas holidays) and their growth did not leave much to impress (I think the floros were too weak and there was zero water being given). So we built a box and stuck them under the 1000w hps system. So we've gotta play catch up in the veg stage. The front two in the pick are the Skunk #11 which are coming along really great. The back 4 are chocolope. The nutes we're using are 24-8-16. It sucks they had to be left but the skunk is only 2 -3 days.

I believe that the reason your plants have not taken off yet is because they are still trying to establish their roots. The containers that they are in are too large for seedlings. It is best to start your seedlings in 3 inch peat moss containers and once the roots start poking out then transplant them into a larger container like the ones you have them in now. I also think your CFL were more than sufficint lighting. I would have had the lights right on the plants even touching them. Another thing I think you should do is have a fan blowing on them at all times to strengthen the stems.

^^ thanks. We do have a fan blowing on them. Temp is at 28-29 and humidity is around 40 - 50%. I'll keep that in mind for the next seedlings, thanks.

I agree...........i like to start my clones/seedlings in rapid rooters.......when a good amount of roots are poking out i like to t-plant into keg cups of soil.........then when they root those they go into either 1,2, or 3 gallon containers.......depending on the plant and style of growth i want from the plant. Also, as long as you have your fan blowing on the plants, you can get those cfl's within 1 inch of your plant........i've only ever had a problem with leaf burn from cfl when i was not using a fan and the leaf blade CONSTANTLY rested against the cfl bulb.........long as you have a fan going, even if the leaf constantly brushes against the bulb, your good to go. It's when the leaf has NO air movement and constantly sits on the bulb that a cfl will burn the leaf. Take advantage of what your using mang!!!

^ its not cfls im using, i dont really want to put the 1000w hps bulb up against the plants. the leaves seemed a bit burnt when we got home from break but the new 2 layers ahve very healthy looking leaves.

ah shit man.....i knew you were using the 1000W........sorry :sifone: pot will do that to ya....ya know?! Definately don't put the 1000W that close lol, id keep it 2-3ft. above the little girls.......probably 3ft.........that shit is BRIGHT!!! Those little ones don't need all that that 1000W can give so keep it a good bit above 'em for now and gradually move it close as they get older............i would never get closer than 1-1.5ft from the canopy with 1000W.............might start running into light burn if you get any closer........meaning WAY too much light focused on one spot and burning the plant.......without even touching it.........i really hope you have GOOD ventilation.......those 1000W can generate quite abit of heat as im sure your now aware of! Anyway man im ripped and rambling...........can't wait for the next update!

    SWAZO-
I know that you are using a l000w bulb right now but it is really a waste of energy and you are depleting the bulb's life expectancy. I thought you said that you were using flourescence. That is all you need at this stage of the game.

    M4Nl4C420 -
I also transplant at least two times before the plants are in the final containers. It's definitely the best way for the plant to utilize it's energy for vegging instead of just growing roots. When you grow a plant outdoors, the root system will use as much space as possible - so you need an obstruction so the roots are 'contained' and instead the energy will be spent on vegging .

PS- I really don't think that you need any fertilizer yet. Let the plant utilize the nutrients that are in the soil . When the plants are passed the seedling state then you should start to fertilize sparingly.

Designating what height your bulbs should be from the plants can be determined by placing your hand at a distance from the bulb where you can keep it there for a minute or so and all you will notice is a slight warmth to your hand. You really can't give a designated distance because all bulbs are not created equal and your bulb does lose strength with age.
