not pretty. The new 'official' number is now 7.2%....... which just can't be anywhere near accurate.

the jobs lost number you quoted is only for december and it will be revised upwards as they all are.

    real unemployment is at 13.5%.

total jobs lost for 2008 stands at 2.6 million.

as with the december numbers that number to will be revised upwards as all the data is tallied..

I should have put that that number was only for December, I thought I did.

I'm thinking 13.5% is still sorta low, or it will be in another couple months.

Today is the day we get to hear how horrible the retailers did for christmas.

And if they are anything like Wal-marts bad news, we be fucked.

and I just read that even worse, 1.9 million of those jobs came in the last 4 months of 2008. Thats rather significant.

well detroit is over 20% by all accounts..

i have one analyst that i use for my data.the data he uses is documented and the rate is at 13.5%.

i have seen people claiming 15% and higher as the real unemployment numbers but they give no evidence to back their claims up..

i have learned not to make any statements without the numbers to back them up so ill stick with the 13.5%..

So I guess, letting in an unlimited amounts of illegal aliens, having so many companies now having China etc. make products for the US market, and outsourcing jobs did not work out afterall.Who would have thunk it?LOLz------Stop the illegals and tax any product made in China etc. 300% or more, and tax any company that outsources workers 1000% of each outsourced workers salary, and that would begin to solve alot of problems.

most illegals are returning home.i really find that issue a moot point.

and yes we must rebuild our manufacturing sector if we ever hope to climb out of this hole.

yeah, they are going back home because there isn't even work for them. Thats how bad its got.

I'd say Feb will be a big loss month, but I'm betting March will be 1 million +

Well, at least I won't be affected, since I lost mine months ago.

i'm guessing that you are all in the USA.

its the same here in the UK. many many millions of people loosing their jobs, every day on the news it just seems that another company has gone bust, more job losses, more unemployment.

Hippiehillbilly I do agree manufacturing things domestically is very important.--And I don't see why so many people fall for the con-game that companies put out saying they make things in China etc. and outsource to keep prices lower. It does not lower prices,it just makes CEOs etc. alot richer.

my wife has two right now, one just as a bartender, which she really lucked into, but pays surprisingly well, even though she only works there 1 or 2 nights a week. her other job she works for a highly prestigeous Country Club that has had just about every famous person, world leader, and then some up there. Even they have cut hours, and staff, and will totally close down come march. These are the richest 2700 or so people in the fucking world, so I hear quite a few stories that she comes home and tells me.

Apparently the biggest thing amongst them is the alleged FEMA coffins down in Georgia. It concerns me when these guys talk about this. I always figured they WERE the inside info, but it seems they don't have any more of a clue than the rest of us.

And about the illegal aliens, the ones that left will return(if allowed ) once the economy does get a little better.

'Made in China' labels hidden at Bush event
    'Overzealous volunteer' blamed for move
    From Jennifer Yuille
    CNN Washington Bureau

"ST. LOUIS, Missouri (CNN) --Someone wanted the right setting Wednesday as President Bush traveled to the Midwest to deliver another pitch for his economic plan.

When the president delivered his remarks, he did so from the floor of a warehouse with American flags in the background along with the logo "Strengthening America's Economy" on a backdrop of boxes. The boxes were stamped "Made in U.S.A."

One problem: The boxes were made in China.

And that was evident despite an effort to hide labels on boxes surrounding the stage. The boxes placed on the side of the stage had "Made in China" labels covered up with white pieces of paper.

"This was the work of an overzealous advance volunteer," said White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan. "It's being taken up with the appropriate people."

The event took place at JS Logistics, a trucking and warehouse firm. In his speech, Bush said his tax breaks would spur small-business growth."

A sidenote to this whole issue:About 10 years ago Walmart used to 'brag' that what they sell is made in the USA.They had big signs in front of stores saying so.They sure took those signs down.
