I need to write an essay on what water symbolizes in literature and I'm lost. This is what I have so far.. Authors have used symbolism since the beginning of time. The purpose of a symbol is to represent something while causing the reader to think on a deeper level, rather than presenting it in plain sight. In literature, water is a common symbol used to represent life and purity. The most basic interpretation of water as life is rooted in our physical need for water in order to survive. Humans cannot live without water; our bodies would become dehydrated and malfunction without it. This is one reason it is viewed as a provider of life. Would appreciate some help from the creative stoners on the board lol. this shit needs to be atleast a page long and i'm out of ideas.
shit it can symbolize anything u god dam want it to, just make shit up, say it symbolizes greed, love, what ever. there isnt a right or wrong answer so whats ur teacher gonna do
You could talk about how the Earth is the only planet that has known life and it's the only planet with water. There aren't any known lifeforms on other planets in our galaxy and those planets don't have water. You could make a connection there.
Yea, has your teacher given any hints in class as to what he or she wants to hear? If not, you can go so many places with this essay man. I mean it's water...it's necessary for life, it's used in Christianity as a symbol of purity and cleansing, its a unique substance because it expands when frozen instead of contracting....you might actually be better off writing this essay if you get hella blazed before hand.
Water symbolizes racism.. water in its pure forum is crystal clear... as one ads pollution.. aka.. racism.. the water gets impure
Well considering water is a necesity to life, throughout the evolution its what i would say shaped the human world. People migrated to area's that had water to life in. Had these really well known places lacked supply, they may have been wastelands today instead of packed cities. Along as our thirst, it contributes to another requirement. Oxygen. Flora and Fauna require it to survive and produce as much as we do. Oversea's being expressed as very great distances, uncontrolable and fierce force of nature. Allthough ofcourse in modern world, science and technology have made more predictable and somewhat logical, its still used in mythology that waters and oceans are controlled at will by Gods. Through history its noted of many civilisations offering prayers and sacrafices to these Gods for safe passages and protection from harm. Whether be it the Gods protection from nature, or God being nature itself differs from one mith to other. Hope this helped create some ideas
Water is like Wine.. if you drink too much you can die!!! Water.., the bringer of life.. the taker of life
Too much oxygen can get you high... Sales Kid shouting newspaper headlines near the train station: JUNKIES FROM BIRTH!! FORGET CRACK BABIES!!! H2 IS THE NEW GLUE, ALMOST NEW!!! EASILY ACCESABLE TO KIDS, OXYGEN IS UP FOR OUTLAW CONSIDERATION!!!
it almost always (and from the 15 y/o standpoint of having to write a goddamn essay) symbolizes life. At least in general. Water is the lifeblood of the planet, without it there would be no trees, no living creatures, no viable ecosystem. Humans are made up of mostly water (like 80% or so, i think. ) which is one reason why there are more accidents (car and otherwise) near the full moon. the really important reference you need to give us, is which book you are reading, or segment in class are you working on? What water symbolizes in "Island of the Blue Dolphins" may be different from the symbolism in "Number the Stars" in general though, water is life. it is movement, flowing. it is trade, opportunity. it is seclusion, as on an island. it is death as well. Your essay really depends on what you are learning in class at the time.
haha! think its legit? i've heard that professors check students papers for plagarism and use websites like that. it's probably only to scare students into not plagarizing, though.
yeah, it would be a pretty much waste of time to just check through everyones work against everysite. Its just for scares,i admit though when i was young, i believed it
you don't have to check every word, just a phrase. especially one that doesn't sound like the writing style of the person turning in the paper. I warned my brother not to plagiarize something, a poem he found on our computer (the lyrics to a song) and told him to remove it from submission to the school art magazine. he either didn't, or the editor removed the wrong submission, but either way i got grounded for turning in my brother. apparently having fair warning and the time to prevent the incident was lost on my dad. so unjust. anyway, for example: "Matrix he tumbles down a long tube from his suspension chamber" punch just that phrase into google, and bam, you're getting detention.
Wow, you snitched on your bro? I would never forgive that if a friend did it, if a family member, i would just avoid anything past hello and goodbye. IMO right and wrong dont exist right, and what you just did was take shit into your own hands and instead of letting him see the consequences of his actions, you forced the consuequences of your actions on him... Me being only child and such, always imagined sibblings having a huge deal of trust and care for eacher, minus the fighting/kid shit... but wow. But its just my oppinion.
sorry, i didn't give all the details. I had access to and was reading/ looking at the submissions (because i was nerdy and hung out in the computer lab) and i noticed the submission by him of a copyrighted song. I did not go to the teacher first, I went to him. he said he 'found' it on our computer (I would have been more pissed if it was one of my poems) I told him to remove the submitted work before it got published. he had at least 3 weeks to do it. when the magazines came out he was lauded, and promptly reported. he had plenty of time to fix his fuck up, and when he didn't i fixed it for him. my little brother and i are fine now, but he was a fucked up inconsiderate prick when he was younger. I have no patience for people who plagiarize. its like, if you steal a tv, you don't go around telling people you built the tv. and the trust and care between siblings generally isn't there until at least one of them is out of high school. i felt i did the right thing, under the circumstances, and it was one of many instances that doing what i felt was right and just, just got me into trouble.
I dont understand... How did you fix it for him? and who actually reported him? like the readers when the magazine came out or what? And yeah in general i guess i agree with plagiarism...
