I was looking at baby things in Amazon and I found this kit to make your own baby food:

    http://www.amazon.com/Fresh-Baby-Ea...=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1230742023&sr=1-193

I never thought of that before. Im not really a cooker or crafty/handy girl, actually not at all. But I was reading the reviews and this seems really great. I really like that is all vegetarian, that it comes with the trays to store the food and that is shows you what you need to know about the preparation process for clueless mommies like me.

I just think that it would be such a great feeling to make the food that my baby is gonna eat, instead of just buying it in the store and feeding it to him/her. I really want my baby to have a healthy diet, so this is a habit that carries along while growing up and what better way to start that by making the baby's food?

I would really like to hear your opinion on this and if you do this yourself please share how it works out for you. Thank you :)

    she has a slight cold.
Yes, she is, but hey, you're planning meals for your unborn child. :p
It would be nice to get it for her for when she is ready to start eating solids.
She is only a month and 3 weeks old.

I made all my own baby food. I didn't have any special equipment at all. I'd just use my regular blender to mash the food. I started off using this book http://www.amazon.com/Superfoods-Ba...d_bbs_8?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230849136&sr=8-8 just to get ideas on recipes, then I ended up just blending whatever I made for the family for my dd to eat. I think the reason she is such a wonderful eater is because I made all her food. My son was on jarred food and never seemed to graduate from them to real food. He is an awful eater. After I'd blend the food, I'd freeze them in regular ice cube trays (2 for 99 cents most places). Then I'd break the ice cubes into ziplocs, label them, and store until I needed to use it. My library had the book, so I never had to buy it. Good luck, just wanted to let you know there is no need to spend a fortune on any kits or equipment to make baby food. My sister in law in turkey made my son's food when we went with a hand blender.

I am obsessed with this show called living fresh with Sara Snow or getting fresh with Sara Snow and its great She always talks about healthy/natural living and she once talked about making baby food. It was really interesting which had me wanting to make my own organic baby food when/if I have kids. I think its a wonderful decision :D Their are so many positives when making your own baby food. I wish I could find her information she had the show ... but I cant find it LOL
    :) Good luck !!

No it's not vegetarian but most of the first foods are just veggies, steamed and blended. She talks about what fruits need to be cooked, and which don't. But later does add recipes that include meat, but she always gave alternatives for vegetarian diets. Check your library, they might have it and you can check it out without buying it. I liked it because it was very easy compared to other babyfood books.

I want the magic bullet! My baby has just started on solids so he's just taking very small amounts. I buy homemade organic purres form my local health store. They are super cheap and certified organic so I trust em. When he gets more advanced on solids I'll make my own. Me and my husband eat a lot of spicy food so thats what I mainly make

I plan on making my own baby food when the baby gets to solids. We are going to use a food processor and just blend everything.

I never did straight purees for my DD. When she started on solids, she got roasted sweet potatoes with chili powder. Then we did something like curried spinach. And then we did a sag aloo (Spinach with potato). Hummus was a regular for her, and us. She's a great eater now. She eats salad, curries, stirfries, such a varied lot of foods.

I agree with Jgirl. Feed them what you eat. Heck, they are used to it from in-utero and breastfeeding anyway! :)

make your own baby food is such a money conserver, really cuz first u gotta get diapers then wipes then clothes then this and that and that other thing, and even if u do pull in food stamps baby food is way expensive, and if u look at the del monte brand baby food it's almost always got white grape juice., it makes the food sweet for babies which they don't need either.

I made all of my own too and it really doesn't have to be a big production. I was very concerned with food sensitivities due to family history so I made specific baby foods by steaming individual fruits and veggies and blending with breast milk and freezing in ice cube trays. Took less time than running to the store with a baby! lol Those were especially great for travelling with when we weren't sure what we would be eating. As I introduced more and more foods with no problem, we started just blending our food for her. When she was able to tolerate more texture, we used a hand powered food mill ($25), which we could bring with us wherever we went. I have a girlfriend who's never made or bought baby food. They just use a fork and mash up what they can and she's still BFing, so he gets what he needs :)

I made all of my kids' baby food at home. It's well worth it! I too, used the Super Baby Food book quite a bit. I did the whole batch and freeze method. I also ground up grains for baby cereals as well (I have a nice kick-butt Kitchen Aid blender that can take just about anything!). Worked great! I'd definitely recommend making your own baby food!
