    What is it?

Reagents are used to test drugs before you use them. A reagent usually can't prove a drug is the correct drug, and it can never prove how pure it is. But it can prove that something you have is NOT the drug you think it is, and give you a fairly good idea of what it could be.

It is VERY important for people using chemicals and MDMA tabs to test them. I know one dude who was supposed to get methylone from a vendor and he got DOI. He would have easily died if he could not tell the difference. A few vendors have also sent bunk and who knows what the hell that is. Another mix up I know of was PCP and Novocaine. Some MDMA tabs (none online I have heard of) contain PMA instead of MDMA, and PMA is really dangerous shit.

Here are instructions on how to make reagents (you can also buy testing kits) and some references for a few drugs.

    Reagent Name: Marquis Test

    REAGENT PREPARATION

Reagent 1: Add 8-10 drops (approx. 0.25 ml) of 37% formaldehyde solution to 10 ml of glacial acetic acid.

    Reagent 2: Concentrated sulphuric acid.

    PROCEDURE

    - Place a small amount (1-2 mg of powder, or 1-2 drops of a liquid) of the suspected material in a depression on a spot plate.

    - Add one drop of Reagent 1, then one drop of Reagent 2, and stir.

    - Observe the color of the mixture.

    Reagent Name: Mecke Test

    REAGENT PREPARATION

Reagent: Dissolve 1 g selenious acid in 100 ml conc. sulfuric acid.

    PROCEDURE

    - Place a small amount (1-2 mg of powder, or 1-2 drops of a liquid) of the suspected material in a small test tube.

    - Add one drop of Mecke Reagent.

    - Observe the color of the mixture.

    Reagent Name: Simon’s Test

    REAGENT PREPARATION

reagent 1: Dissolve 2 g of sodium carbonate in 100 ml of water
    (=2% aqueous sodium carbonate solution).

Reagent 3: Mix 10 ml of acetaldehyde solution and 10 ml of ethanol (=50% (v/v) ethanolic acetaldehyde solution).

    PROCEDURE

    - Place a small amount (1-2 mg of powder, or 1-2 drops of a liquid) of the suspected material in a depression on a spot plate.

    - Add one drop of Reagent 1 and stir.

    - Add one drop of Reagent 2, and then one drop of Reagent 3.

    - Observe the color of the mixture.

    Reagent Name: Gallic Acid Test

    REAGENT PREPARATION

Reagent: Dissolve 0.1 g of gallic acid in 20 ml of concentrated sulphuric acid (=0.5% (w/v) solution)

    PROCEDURE

    - Place a small amount (1-2 mg of powder, or 1-2 drops of a liquid) of the suspected material in a small test tube.

    - Add one drop of Gallic Acid Reagent.

    - Observe the color of the mixture.

Reagent Name: Erlich's Test (aka PDMAB Test)

    REAGENT PREPARATION

Reagent: Dissolve 0.5 g p-dimethylaminobenzaledehyde (p-DMAB) in 50 ml ethanol and 50 ml conc. hydrochloric acid.

    PROCEDURE

    - Place a small amount (1-2 mg of powder, or 1-2 drops of a liquid) of the suspected material in a small test tube.

Reagent 3: Dissolve 8 g of sodium hydroxide in 100 ml of water (=2N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution).

    PROCEDURE

    - Place a small amount (1-2 mg of powder, or 1-2 drops of a liquid) of the suspected material in a depression on a spot plate.

    - Add 2 drops of Reagent 1.

    - Add 2 drops of Reagent 2, then add 2 drops of Reagent 3 and stir.

    - Observe the color of the mixture.

    Reagent Name: Mandelin Test

    REAGENT PREPARATION

Reagent: Suspend 1 g of finely powdered ammonium vanadate in 100 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid (relative density 1.86).

    PROCEDURE

    - Place a small amount (1-2 mg of powder, or 1-2 drops of a liquid) of the suspected material in a small test tube.

    - Add one drop of Mandelin Reagent.

    - Observe the color of the mixture.

    Reagent Name: Sodium Nitroprusside Test

    REAGENT PREPARATION

Reagent 1: Mix 25 ml of a 1% sodium nitroprusside solution with 1 ml acetaldehyde.

Reagent 2: 2% sodium carbonate solution.

    PROCEDURE

    - Place a small amount (1-2 mg of powder, or 1-2 drops of a liquid) of the suspected material in a depression on a spot plate.

    - Add one drop of Reagent 1 and stir.

    - Add one drop of Reagent 2.

    - The color is formed immediately after Reagent 2 is added.

Feel free to edit or add on to this as needed. I suggest substances have a FEW people verify how they react before they are added to prevent shit heads from fucking up the list =).

And also people just so you know. when you first get a new drug, the first thing you should do is reagent test it to minimize the risk it was accidentally or purposefully mislabeled. Then if it is a drug you are new too, you should weigh out an insignificant dose of it, I mean like so little it wouldn't even get you high. half the threshold dose. This is to test for acute allergies, if you are extremely allergic to the substance or extremely sensitive to it, you are likely to still feel something at half the threshold dose (be it very slightly high if you are sensitive, or notice rashes or other bad symptoms if you are possibly allergic).

Five or so days after you first test run (at least, possibly as long as you want) you should take the lowest suggested dose of the drug to further evaluate it.

If the first two tests went fine chances are it is safe to up the dose to the level you like.

Make sure all doses are weighed out with accurate milligram scales after being reagent tested with at LEAST one reactive reagent. Following these three simple tests (miligram scale, reagent test, two test runs) will DRASTICALLY reduce the chances of you having a negative or life threatening experience.

    Binary,

Thank you for being articulate as usual. I preach the gospel of marquis and this (hopefully) will facilitate harm reduction. IMO, Erowid has the best color charts and a particular dance safety site can provide the reagents.

I like the idea of this, but is there any way to get these chemicals without spending a fortune?

a premade reagent kit that can test a ton of drugs and pills will cost you only $40. If you buy the chemicals and make your own it will cost probably like 1/4th as much although you might need to get a bit more.

I'll have to look into that then. Some of the "full spectrum" drug kits from that website are like $250.
