I take care of grandchildren and hanai (Hawaiian for adopted) children under the age of 3. I notice with newborns and pre language toddlers their brain is not fully dialed in yet but the other brain stem regions are active and processing data. These are the things we usually don't remember, but a "memory" has been formed at a different "pre-ego" level. Babies recognize smells and body vibes better than we do. this in my opinion, that there is an area in our brains we access at times especially under the influence of lsd. I think that's why I enjoy connecting with children at that level. :biggrinjester:
Or you could be really really childish and insane????? Isn't the soul the greatest example of the soul in purest form? Just being an ass I guess. :-D One love.
You miss the bigger picture, even if it's right in front of your face and controlling things more than the rat race you've chained yourself to in hopes of being #1 rat.
Its really an interesting aspect of neurodevelopment. The child has reflexes that are lost as other ones are gained, each required for that particular stage of development. The neural circuitry of the developing child forms based on its experiences, certain environmental cues illicit certain actions and behaviours and that is it, there is no dilution effect from ego. edit: I forgot to address your theory: this in my opinion, that there is an area in our brains we access at times especially under the influence of lsd. I don't think you are accessing unused areas per se, it is more so the ability to remove the ego from the thought process, and see these things "for what they really are, honestly", much like a child.
I love children, to me interacting with them is probably the most beautiful thing. But I dont believe that from age 3 and under, there's any pre-ego moments, if anything children are all ego, this is just exposed in a very beautiful way, but still the world revolves around them, their wants and needs. I think we just get fooled by their beauty and innocence.
Their innocence is a beautiful thing. But I would respectively submit that we are talking about a different kind of ego. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ego
There are many different appraoches to exactly what the ego is, as stated by that very link you posted : "In modern-day society, ego has many meanings. It could mean one’s self-esteem; an inflated sense of self-worth; or in philosophical terms, one’s self." So it's not that there are different kinds, just different opinions as to what the word attempts to sum up.
True. Children are, actually, the greatest example of self centerd obsession lol. But they are, at the same time, removed from this being negative since they are innocent and ignorant to their own behaviour since they are born this way and dont learn otherwise for a few years. So, if by soul he means the balance of nature, then I totally agree. But if by soul he means the true Self that is within all of us, I strongly disagree. Jesus had that quote "unless ye become as little children", but by that I doubt he meant to be ignorant of your actions. But rather, free from both positive and negative karma, or 'sins' if you want to be one sided about accumlated debts.
Simple. It's pre-ego times, I think after kindergarten or around 4 years old they begin changing and getting a sense of what and where the are living, how many like them are also here, what they have compared to others, or what they dont, what they want, etc.. Then BOOM, all innocence is lost, you know, pre-exposure to the real life. You can see it if you're around them, how they act, how the respond, then all of a sudden they start taking on and understanding themselves, as they get older, try to be like the parents, or friends, or maybe what they see on TV. You follow?
Great answers, of course I follow... heh. Relayer: I totally agree with, "So, if by soul he means the balance of nature, then I totally agree." Snoc, the question I am leading to is along the lines of being evil. Can one be born evil? Or does it take some "growing up", like after kindergarten, and comparison to others, for the conclusion to be made...? I def. follow, snoc... i live with two kids, been watching them since they were born... biding my time! EDIT: I it external things and the comparisons with them that give one a false sense of "evil"?
Well I'm not sure, like RELAYER said there is also the 'true self' within us all, and a natural order of things But your edit I believe is correct. In time they begin to build a perspective on everything, and in that time it is very easily possible to not knowingly create a sense of evil, you know with wants and how to get them, I'm a bit babbled right now but I'm trying to make sense. Parents play a BIG role, and have a STRONG influence over this also, which is why you see most kids ending up in prison were raised very poorly, etc.. If nobody will teach them right versus wrong, they will do it for them self, and it's much easier to follow and fall into the 'evil' then, than the good.. When a kid wants candy, he can steal it, or he knows the right way which is to pay for it, but why pay when you can just take it? You see? They also do say some people are born right into sin..maybe this means the parents? Heathens will bread heathens type thing.. So good question does, I need a coffee..
Remember, it's only evil because people around you say it's evil. Travel back in time and to a different continent perhaps, and whatever crime you're thinking of was embraced and encouraged. That's the context of "evil" we are speaking of here I assume, the social "crime" evil. If you're talking about some metaphysical negative moral state then I must duck out of the conversation because I have no idea what that is
