Well, I started 24/7 barefooting during winter break and I don't want to go back to wearing shoes at school.:ack2: I'm going to try it on my first day back for sure, but my student handbook says, "Shoes must be worn at all times while at school or participating in school activities unless the nature of the activity otherwise specifically supports going shoeless, such as swimming, etc." Is there anything I can do to make it less obvious that I'm not wearing shoes?
You can try something called barefoot sandals. They are nothing more than some straps that go accross the tops of your feet while leaving your soles bare. If you "google" the word, you should find plenty of websites that sell these. Another trick might be to wear some bellbottom jeans, let the cuffs hang well past your feet. I think it's a really neat idea that you are thinking about going barefoot to school, as barefeet are really cool! Keep us posted, let us know who you make out with your barefooting to class. BTW, why the sudden change to going barefoot????
Thanks for suggesting barefoot sandals, it's given me a few ideas. Anyway, as far as the sudden change goes, I've always went barefoot all the time inside my house for as long as I can remember, and I've walked around outside in my yard for a while, but I recently discovered this site and http://www.barefooters.org/ and I've realized that I'm not the only one that likes doing this. I go back to school January 5, and I'll tell you how it went then.
I decided to go in with my sandals on and just slip them off in 1st block(TV Production). No one really noticed my shoelessness because my feet were stuck under an editing computer desk for most of the block, but when I got up to my teacher said I should put my shoes on before going in the hallway. Second block(Forestry II, it's mainly book work right now) was the worst of my classes because the students in there are one big clique except for me, the emo guy, and this other guy who just sits and reads. Once one of them noticed, a bunch of them came over and made a big deal out of it, but I really don't care because they can't do anything about it. If my teacher noticed, she didn't say anything. Lunch was good, my friends noticed and I told them I was comfortable that way and they were cool with it. In 3rd block(English), no one said anything at all. In fourth(Biology), one girl asked me politely if I had any shoes, but I could tell she was just concerned about me, so I told her I didn't like them and they make my feet stink horribly. (Anyone who's ever smelled my tennis shoes can attest to this) All in all, it went well, and I'm going to go barefoot as often as I can from now on.
Good to hear from you again, sounds like you had a nice day. Keep it up and get barefooted when possible. I know it can be difficult, those teachers can really have a power trip at times. Hey, it's just your feet, you are not hurting anyone. I'd be willing to bet you were the only guy wearing sandals though. Keep us posted.
tazzin, cool! stick with it. never wore shoes at all as kid growing up on a commune, hated having to wear even sandals at high school. like you, took 'em off at first, then stopped. i go barefoot all the time, cept on my motorbike. my strategy was the same as for havin' long hair, which was be real polite to the straights and say they could do and say what they like, but that's how it is. they'l give up hassling eventually.
I very much agree with & like Koryu's advice: tell them that's how it is, whether they jump high or low :iagree: :cheers2:
I did this not too long ago at my highschool. No no really said anything except for students and one teacher who asked if my feet were cold (they were, winter still happening here) Once spring hits. Goodbye shoes!
