I used to rent this movie every weekend when I was a child. I was obsessed with it!:) Cannot remember the name of the snail though........
The second one with Jonathan Brandis was horrible. When I was a kid I had a major crush on Atraeu (sp?), and I still cry when his horse dies in the quicksand:(
    Love love love that movie!

I watched it about 2 months ago, but I was stoned out of my mind, so it's all a blur in retrospect. Great movie though.

the main thing wrong with the never ending story is that it ended, at least the first movie did anyway
unless its running on cable somewhere that i can't get it

Is the book better than the movie. I was also obsessed with the movie when I was younger. Is it worth reading the book?

It's the BEST movie ever, period. The luck dragon, awsome. The beast scary thing, killer. The nothing, psycadelic. I seriously was scared shitless when I first saw that movie.

I would love seeing it again, it's been sutch a long time.
I always cried when there in the swamp and his horse sinks in... God, that was so sad.
I named my white cat Falcor.
    What a beautifull film...

check dis shit out yo' i wrote this a while ago about this movie...of course i don't actually believe my insane ramblings but i think i make a pretty good arguement

    -----
i think the movie the never ending story is all about pot....consider this:

Fantasia is being destroyed by The Nothing, and Sebastian has to give the empress a new name for his imagination to be the limit. he reads a single book about Fantasia and is suddenly involved.. a book the three main authorities didn’t want him to read. He faces bullies that force him into the trash but in the end he prevails, riding the dragon at the end.

comparison: fantasia is your high...and what happens when your government closes down all the grows and you smoke all your pot?...well then you have...'the nothing'. Sebastian has to give the empress a new name because during the 80's(when the film was made) marijuana was going through a massive backlash from the free use of the 60's and 70's, and it suddenly had a bad name for itself.
the authorities, parental, institution and corporate (private business) all were trying prevent the boy from obtaining and sustaining his individualities, as in his imagination. his dad (1st authority)told him to stop day dreaming, following a phone call from his teacher (2nd authority) who noticed Sebastian’s social tendencies and failure to comply with the status quo (homework). the bullies represented peer pressure and fear mongering from the public (the just say no campaining, soccer moms). then Sebastian meets the book owner (3rd authority) who really only pretends to not want Sebastian to obtain the information. after Sebastian borrows the book (being kind enough to leave a note) the book shop owner has a devious smile on his face, knowing that consumers are often more productive (in the private sector) when high (purchasing more food for munchies, marking up a lighter 3 dollars just because it has a picture of a pot leaf, selling a 20 dollar vaporizer for 150 dollars ect ect)
...anyways Sebastian is then thrust into the world of fantasia..and for the most part becomes Arichu?(something like that) his 'high' alter ego...(who is the embodiment of what sebatian would like to be)...arichu meets some odd characters along the way....the racing snail, which represents the perception of slow stoners, but really its very fast and takes everyone by surprise...the rock man, an obvious "stoner' who is very good at heart and only tries to help, and the bat dude, ugly, mistunderstood, but flying high...eventually he meets the evil wolf... the wolf said he was sent to fantasia by the people causing the nothing to help destroy it...or a part of your high that ruins your high...i.e. the paranoiya installed by the government some people feel when they get high, like the paranoiya of negative things happening to your body, or of getting caught. ...he gives the empress a new name, his imagination is the limit, and he's riding the dragon in the end (that reference should be obvious)...i think what the book is telling us is that we ALL have to read that book and we ALL have to find the truth about pot. the book owner obviously had already read the book, and no doubt had the same experience. yet fantasia was still in a state of despair when Sebatian read it...it's because we all have to give pot a new name and until you read (obtain information) it will have a bad name in your mind too.

    yea man.....think about it....
