For Christmas, but I'm so scared I'll kill it before Christmas, lol. I already fucked up and put some tap water in there... Hopefully tomorrow I'll remember to get some bottled water for it. If it dies before Christmas, I'm gonna feel like a massive failure, lol.
I hope it's low maintenance because it already fell over in my brother's car on the way home and I read on a couple of websites that there's too much fluoride and chlorine in tap water. But hopefully it stays alive, lol. I'm terrible at keeping plants alive, but Daniel's mom is good at it, so I got her 3 stalks for happiness.
You can definitely put tap water in it. My mom always had bamboo in the house and she always put tap water in it and if you drink tap water in the Dominican Republic, you're most likely gonna end up sick.
I'm excited because we went to the mall today (which was SUPER scary, lol) and I found Daniel's mom and sister both presents and spent under $20. I got his sister this really pretty candle holder. It's a yellow glass star on this metal stand and you put the candle in the middle of the star. I think it's awesome, so I hope she does, too.
Tap water in the Dominican Republic wouldn't have high levels of fluoride and chlorine... so it shouldn't matter. The water in Gringolandia, on the other hand, is pumped full of the shit. Depends on the area though. ...and if that stuff actually does kill bamboo.
It could totally kill a human though. I've always loved it when dumb American tourists drank the tap water in Honduras and got cholera. Serves them right, ignorant fuckers.
Haha, it happens in DR too. In hotels they have little signs behind the doors in the rooms saying "do not drink tap water" haha
Yeah, honestly... it's like the first thing they tell you when going to these countries. People who do not know that shouldn't be traveling to begin with.
I've managed to kill so many bamboos it's not even funny. Also, aloe vera plants, yucca trees.. well, pretty much every single plant I've ever owned has died. Good luck keeping yours alive!!
I really hope it doesn't. We get well water and I've heard that it's treated a little less with fluoride and chlorine, but I'm still gonna change the water out today and put some cheap bottled in. I don't care if Daniel's mom kills it, I just want to keep it alive before I give it to her, lol.
