wednesday 13- skeletons (go you joker with the good moosic) mindless self indulgence- if Dir en grey-uroboros(#1 billboard heatseekers list in north america, really give this album a chance, its awesome, and not even just because its dir en grey, just cause its awesome)
I waited for Death Magnetic by Metallica to come out for 4 years, and I loved it. Black Ice by AC/DC was pretty good too.
My two favourites of 2008 are.....: Endless boogie - Focus level and Earthless - Live at Roadburn Other ones that I nominate - Dead Man - Euphoria - Graveyard - Graveyard - Nebula - Heavy psych - Jex Thoth - Jex Thoth
The Awesome: Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend(This is probably the best new band I've heard of all year, but it seems to be a love or hate thing, but it's just awesome pop) Seasick - self titled EP(the best psychedelic band you've never listened to, seriously, go look them up on myspace) Jennifer Gentle - Evanescent Land(Jennifer Gentle is the most awesome, improbable, quirky Italian psychedelic band ever, c'mon they take their name from something in a Pink Floyd song) Breeders - Mountain Battles(Not the new Pixies album we're all hoping one day for, but still good) The Kills = Midnight Boom(Not as good as their old stuff, but still damn good) Black Angels - Directions to see a Ghost(Everything the Black Angels do is awesome, maybe they have officially taken the torch from the Velvet Underground, but made it harder and louder) Black Keys - Attack and Release(not as good as the last, but still damn good, less gritty maybe?) Beach House - Devotion(Like Mazzy Star? Listen to these two) Jaymay - Autumn fallin(The darling of the New York anti-folk scene?) The Good: Ac/Dc - Black Ice(There was alot of filler, take like 6 songs off and it'd be flippin awesome, but AC/DC is back and it is flippin awesome) Alice Cooper - Along Came a Spider(I was shocked with this one, I'm a huge Alice Cooper fan and love almost every album, was a bit let down by this one though) Guns n Roses - Chinese Democracy(Chinese Democracy was actually pretty awesome, 14 years of making worth of awesome though? No REM - Accelerate(Nothing spectacular but a solid album Cat Power - Jukebox(It was a really good album, but everything but 1 song was covers) Emilie Autumn - 4'O Clock/Girls Just Wanna Have Fun(2 seperate EPs, both 1/2 really good and 1/2 not so good, take the good from both it'd be one awesome EP) Beck - Modern Guilt(not a big Beck fan, but this was good) Courtney Love - Nobody's Daughter(due for internet release Jan.1st, but from the demos that have been put out so far it seems it'll be alright, still a long way from Hole though)
I really need to stop procrastinating and buy that Jex Thoth. I have one song off it and it really kicks ass, and every so often there is an album that I won't download because I'd rather wait to purchase it; the suspense just makes the initial listen that much more worthwhile. Once I get my financial aid refund for the spring I'll be picking that up along with a couple of other recent doom albums.
