I would like to spend a few months to a year traveling the United States and visiting communes, ICs, and other sustainable living communities. I have looked into a few places, namely Twin Oaks, The Farm, and Earthship in Taos, NM. My goal is to feel out the different ways that an intentional community can be run, to find out which ones fit my personal philosophy and lifestyle best. I'd also like to learn skills in the area of self-sufficiency, and sustainable building, farming, and living. I am in the process of perusing this board to learn of other places I may like to visit. In the mean time, it would be lovely if those of you who are more knowledgeable share places you think make for a worthwhile stop on my quest.
In the future, I want to start an IC of my own, but now I just want to travel and learn about how others work.
Same with me but I don't have the means to travel, let alone sending the letters to each commune and coordinating visits for each in the travel plan. So I start threads, read posts, research communal living, and how to make things needed for a commune. I keep a notebook for ideas I come up with or from my research, and a many pockets folder for various printouts from various sites. Sort of preparing for the future... just in case. If ya want, check out my threads in the Communal Living section to post your ideas and read others. Peace
