just before I dreaded my hair I put some henna dye in it. Now I'm getting major roots and don't know whether I should just dye my whole head my natural colour, henna the roots or just leave it? These pics are yuk to be warned, I love my dreads but hate my roots-gahhhbbb!!

I kinda like the look of the two colors, but if you really don't like the difference, I would say either dye all your hair to your natural tone or henna the roots again. :)

I have two toned hair too thanks to years of experimentation! I dont think it looks bad but if you cant stand it, Id just henna the roots first and see what happens!

Id let that shit grow out, in a few years it will look awesome with just the bottoms of the dreads a lighter color. My hairs been progressively getting darker since i was born so i think that will naturally happen for me.

yah, I'm totally unsure tbh! last year my hair was bleached then red, purple, blue, brown then blonde so if I did henna the top it'd prolly not be as light as the rest cuz that hair had all those colours in before, eek. are you sure it's not that badddddd? I'm not sure how it will look when it reaches like past my ears...

so is there a reason you dont like the roots? it could be neat when you have different colours in your locks. i dont know much about dyes, i just think it would be a hassle always having to redye the new growth.

yah thats why I'm thinking of either growing it out or dying it my natural colour which is deep brown though if I dye it it will prolly look black. I don't like the look of the roots I think they look weird. like some kinda root hat with all these dreads coming out if you get me...but I can live with it and am not that bothered lol

I have had similar feelings before so I can relate.

I think maybe you are thinking about it too much. It really does not look bad at all. Dreads are naturally an eye-catcher, but you certainly have other assets which draw attention away from the color difference.

yah it doesnt look bad at all. Awhile ago, i tried to die my hair what I thought was my natural color...dirty blonde. But uh...the roots grew out dark brown. so then I died my hair dark brown and the roots grew out dirty blonde.....very strange! So then I said F it and I died my hair a deep auburn color but it turned out copperish. Its been about a year since I died my hair and its still multiple colors. My roots are deep brown and my tips are blonde, copper, and orange. Its pretty nuts...but Im scared to mess with it more. Anywhooo....Im just ramblin and procrastinating from getting some work done......blah.

You're welcome. You'll be happier if you leave them be, methinks. That's what I'm doing, and I feel fine about mine. Heck, I'm not even ripping them anymore. I've grown fond of congos. You just keep rockin' that dopeness, and all will be fine.

yeah I think I'll just leave em :) I'm used to them and do love them so would hate if a dye job went wrong! I only ripped mine at the start to make em and now just leave them. only washing them whenever I feel like it and putting some aloe in them to tame the frizz ^-^ by the way, and this is probably way un cool to ask from a dread head but what exactly are congos?

Yeah, you will definitely have to rip if you don't want to end up with eventually one massive dread, called a beaver tail. If I don't rip mine daily they get way too out of hand and end up with really tight mattes near my scalp that hurt when they move. I have a congo in the back made of 5 dreads that is impossible to rip. It grew together before I knew when was time to rip. They really will start to grow together at the roots. It only takes days once it starts.
