:hat: Please allow me to introduce myself:

I'm a veteran of the early '70's "childrens crusade" out of the Beast, the USA.
Living in Sacramento at the time, my most radical and romantic choice would have been to go to Argentina or Chile. I spoke passable Spanish, loved the chow, and to me it seemed the 'New Frontier'.

Practicality and a dishwashers wages made me trek North instead; up Interstate 5 to Vancouver. If I'd been smarter I would have continued on to the Kootanays; to Nelson, BC. where an authentic hip community was.

By the time I learned the new wave had washed up on a higher beach, I was an 'Landed Immigrant' (thanks to an immigration amnesty). in nurses training, and unlikely to be moving further any time soon. At least I hoped I wouldn't be moving again any time soon.

Previously I'd traveled coast to coast twice in a Chevy Suburban transferring from one US Marine Corp base to another. Three or four moves up or down each coast in between. And to Hawaii in the mid-fifties. Oi, the tales I can tell. I couldn't hear my kindergarten teacher over the sound of Atlas missles being test-fired at Miramar. Oliver North was my Boy Scoutmaster for a brief time.

So. Now imagine how someone (me) would manage it to 'grow up' so to be the opposite of what you'd expect from that life-track. You got my address.

I left the US in 1971 when I was 18. Damn, it was scary down there. My sympathies to you all who stayed (or since got born), and best wishes for an end to the Reagan era with yr new Prez and congress.

Hippie I am cuzza' my countercultural roots. I keep the faith. I'm free.

    Barebones disclosures:

Single male longhair 'drug geek' into foraging for food (oysters, wild mushrooms, fishing for trout, growing my own tobacco, brewing own beverages), carnivore, not much into music, much into Terrence McKenna, scepticism, Nichiren buddhism, factual 'real' medicine, podcasts of foreign news services like BBC, NPR, PRI.

I'm off to troll the forums to find a niche. I have much mushroom hunting and biological smarts to share. I wanna' schmooze with the tribe this Winter.

Say howdy. It's encouraging for all of us.

    :cheers2:

Thanks for the welcome and BC solidarity, kiddo! Great hair.

God, can you believe this cold? My fingers are stiff and tingly. All my firewood's green and burning smokey. Ate many pancakes this morn to fight the chill. They're not working.

    Howz you doing?

Thanks for the welcome and the compliment on my intro, guy. I thought maybe you were writing from Dublin, California: until I saw the excellent mug of Guiness on yr personal page. Ever mix Guiness with Strongbow? Yummm!

For a kinda' technical question: private conversations are done thru MSMessenger? I'm still learning the ropes.

im loving the cold! i work outside a lot and below freezing temps mean i dont sink up to my knees in mud :D
we only have 1/2" of snow so far, but im hoping for more.
i have the firewood issue too. in fact, im out of firewood that isnt like way too green to burn. i do have some trees that were cut last year, but i need to persuade someone to cut them into rounds for me
