Who wouldve thought alchohol's the drug that turns me off of drugs forever? Friday I got so trashed, more trashed than I meant to be. Somewhere along the way, I ended up faceplanting into concrete and cut up up my face horribly. Well now its rly infected and my left eye is practically swollen shut. I guess now I have to tell my parents what I rly did friday, they think I was at a game. Oh well, but yea like now i dont even feel like touching cigarretes anymore.

You will, especially liquor, everyone overdoes it in their teens overdoes it one night and says they'll never get drunk again

alcohol and nicotine are probably the two worst drugs on the planet, when considering all things (health cost / monetary cost / quality of high etc), and i've always found it so telling of this society that those are the two that are legal.

alcohol: yeah let's induce light hepatitis so i can lose the ability to walk, fuck, reason, or function for 5 hours. makes a lot of people arrogant, stupid, and violent! i'll probably vomit, and tomorrow i will be incapacitated and in agony from dehydration! also, it's addictive ! : D

nicotene: yeah let's get some lung cancer so i can feel slightly more energetic and relaxed, )on par with 10 seconds of open-eyed, standing meditation), for about 20 minutes. also will most likely give me a heart attack when i'm older! smells like crap, costs a fortune also, it's addictive ! : D

    like . . . why

woe to us for we have sown the history that sprouts the fruit of our comic dilemma.

imagine if 100 years ago the western world had declared alcohol and tobacco illegal, and instead made an industry around marijuana, mushrooms, and lsd. i think we would be aeons ahead of where we are now.

I can't speak for nicotine since I've never tried it, but I actually consider alcohol to be a spiritual substance. I think with any drug, the intention is what determines the outcome. If your sole intention is to get wasted and throw up, then that is all alcohol is going to be good for. If, however, you wish to shift your being into a different standpoint in order to receive an alternate perspective on how you normally operate, along with the rest of the world, all the while maintaining a center of pure observance, it can be a great tool.

As for the hangovers, aren't they just lovely? ;)
Who doesn't want a reminder that we take the easy way out sometimes?

Alcohol - mixing pain and pleasure since the beginning of time.
Ahhh Cosmic Dance, how you make me laugh with your irony.

I agree with Neo. Under most circumstances I would never say that alcohol can be a spiritual drug, however, I think it can be. Several months ago I was at this party and I was talking with this guy who was super drunk. Even though he was drunk and later passed out on the semi-enclosed roof we were on, he had a way with words that was beyond anyone I'd ever heard. He talked about philosophy and religious ideas in general without actually preaching any religion and put his own very interesting spin on the ideas of life. He made total sense to me. It's hard for me to remember everything he said exactly but lets just say that I walked away from our hour long group discussion having listened to the wisest, most spiritual drunk man I'd ever met. He had a great vibe and I think the alcohol just let him express himself better and more openly. Unfortunately I never met the man again but hopefully our paths will cross again and chillage with ensue :p lol

alcohol can clear up my perspective alot, and i really don't get hangovers. it is spiritual sometimes, especially because i drink whenever i trip as well. it really opens me up alot, and drinking with a bunch of friends or at a party is far superior to pot.

cigarrettes are useful sometimes too. they are soooo goooood. i try not to smoke that much, but every once in a while ill buy a pack. i usually smoke quite a few at once, and the clarity i gain is unlike anything. native americans used to use tobacco as an entheogen, in shamanic practises. it's actually a hallucinogen.

just because they are legal and their negative effects are alot better known than unresearched illicit drugs it doesn't mean that they don't have their uses.

I wouldn't call marijuana, lsd, and mushrooms unresearched :)

And yeah tobacco does have great entheogenic properties, i know from experience. Need to hit a hooka to really get it :D

I've never seen any spiritual side to alcohol though . . . to me it has been at most, a good way to get fucked up / social lubricant, and at worse, a stupefying agent on par with huffing dustoff. I just never got any mind expansion from it, but can understand that others do.

but you gotta admit, we sure did pick 2 crappy drugs to make legal, compared to alternatives available.

Compared to psychedelics I agree, but alcohol is 2nd in line only to them.

I might be a little biased because I am hungover as balls right now, but I'm with Writer on this one. Obviously if your intention is just to get "fucked up" you're not going to have much of a spiritual experience. But even when I'm just hanging out drinking some wine by myself I get dumber from it. Isn't having a spiritual experience about maintaining mental clarity? Alcohol pollutes clarity for me.

Ok any alteration of consciousness can provide some insight, including even spiritual insight. I know that at a party off some good bacardi or absinthe......well the increase in emotions can make the moment feel more spiritual even if I only took alcohol. But it REALLY depends on the individual. Because as someone already pointed out, alcohol can severely damage some people's ability to reason. It doesn't damage my reasoning ability, probably due to my experience with it as well as many mind-expanding chemicals; but there is a reason why alcohol makes a lot of people violent and is even considered one of the most intoxicating drugs there are. Lots of experienced users of psychedelics can drive on a mid dose of pot, mushrooms, and acid.....but most experienced alcohol users still could never hope to drive on alcohol (not saying driving on anything is recommended but yeah). And alcohol kills braincells.....something pot and the psychedelics don't do.

Tobacco.......well not really. It's pretty crappy compared to pot. It maybe because I often get to nauseous from too much tobacco use to really feel the spiritual effects that many native american tribes report.....though I suppose the effective spiritual dose is taken orally (as it was when taking for shamanic exploration).

Still either way as Mr. Writer pointed out they are one of the two most pointless and destructive drugs IMO. There are so many better alternatives.....heck xtc is better to take than alcohol at parties. Ideally 2c-b, AMT (except for nausea), or low-medium doses of mushrooms or acid would be the best.

So to answer the OP more fully.....you may give up alcohol and ciggys or you probably won't but that doesn't mean you'll give up every other drug.;) You may love pot and shrooms. Check out my thread in the drug poll section about replacing alcohol and tobacco with shrooms and pot for more info.

    Really? I remain pretty clar.

Who is watching the level of mental clarity? Ask yourself who you are next time you are drunk.

the other trip, i was waiting for a bus.
I tried reading the timetable and when i looked at the 506, all the busses turned into 506, and when i looked at the 536, they all turned to 536.
    That wasnt exactly very clear
    but that was LSD

Hitting your head with a hammer can bring about a spiritual experience and deep clarity. It's still fucking stupid. But if you think it's worth doing you can do it as much as you want. When there are much safer and more pleasant alternatives, I don't see why you'd want to.

My dad died from smoking cigarettes and most of the rest of my family has alcohol problems, so whatever benefits are to be gained from either just don't seem worth it to me. Self destruction has it's beauty, but when you destroy yourself, however zen you may be about it, people who love you suffer.

Psychedelics are completely different. They heal. The ones that have negative physical effects have them in TINY amounts that can be almost negated by taking care of yourself before, during, and after. Others, like ayahuasca, will leave you in better shape than you were before you took them.

I think the people who love you, in most cases, would rather see you weird than dead.

I gave up awhile ago trying to mask my drug use with spirituality.
In fact, I dont know that I ever had that as a motivation at all,
any spiritual or mystical experience I've had has come at much of
    a suprise.
To me, life is an experminet, so I am an experiment, and the most
interesting experiment in my opinion is conciousness and how much
it can be stretched without snapping in half. Or in thirds.
