Well, I've recently decided to take the plunge into veganism and would like some advice.

What foods would you reccomend? Make note, I do currently live with my parents, so I am still at thier mercy when it comes to some foods, so nothing to veggie specific (In other words, I need "normal food" sugestions). They've worked with me alot, but I don't wanna push too far... I've got lots of the common fruits and veggies (I'm not keen on the taste of alot of veggies at the moment, hopefully I'll grow to like more in the future), margarine instead of butter, soy-milk, rice and bran-based cereals (I can still eat my Cap'n Crunch!!), nuts, beans, granola bars... Anything I'm not thinking of?

Do any of you know which fast food places cook thier fries in the same oil with thier chicken and whatnot? Do any of them? ...Do all of them?

What are some good pasta brands that aren't made with eggs and whey, that the rest of my meat-eating family can enjoy with me? What about cesear salad dressing?

I have a major vice with dairy products. Any good veggie cheeses that aren't impossible to find? Chocolate? Icecream? We have a good grocery-store called "Central Market" that I think may carry some of this stuff, I just don't know what to look for.

Now for restraunts... I need some help here. What do I order from a mexican restraunt besides beans and rice? Chinese/Japanese? American? I don't wanna live off of salads and rolls when we go out to eat...

Thank you for the help! :D

Chinese/Japanes:TONS of tofu there.....also rice, and soup, and you get the idea.
    American: Veggie burger/beans
    Mexican: No clue...don't eat Mexican.....

Normal stuff: Pizza, pasta, pancakes,Vegetable /noodle based soups, potatoes, salad, bread....so much stuff I didn't add, you can find TONS of non-meat food products every day, -just don't add anything having to do with slaughter houses!!!

salad dressing wise, kraft (i know, i hate the company but they do a good salad dressing!) does a really good zesty italian. it's kinda see-through and orange. one of their italian ones is made with eggs and cheese, but the other one (i'm pretty sure it's called zesty italian) isn't.

carob, i've heard, is really good and tastes a lot like chocolate but is vegan. also, dark chocolate is vegan. tofutti is good vegan ice cream.

i'm not so sure about the restaurants, i basically eat rice, salad or cheeseless bruschetta/pizza whenever we eat out. it's not easy by any stretch of the imagination! a lot of the time you can ask them to remove the cheese/meat or stuff like that in a dish and they'll accomodate pretty well.

    good luck!

Hmmm for the Ceasar dressing ive never found a vegan option, all have cheese and some have anchovy in them. If your concerned about whey like you said id also suggest you check your margarine because most brands have whey and lactose in it(not all though).
I dont know if this will help but when i was living home id always eat the same meal as my folks but mine would be cooked in a different pot. That way i could avoid all the nonvegan things and add the veggie products my parents hated. Worked out perfectly and still got to enjoy the same meal(basically). If you cook yourself even better

I think I know which one you're talking about, I'll check it out next time we go to the store. :)

Carob? I'll have to look into that. I think our grocery stores carry Tofutti...

Thanks, I guess I'll just have to make due with whatever the restraunts have, then. No biggie. :)

    Thanks!

Darn. It's always been my favorite, too...

I did. Thankfully the brand we always get (Parkay) doesn't have any of that stuff in it. (SCORE!) :D

This could probably be arranged. Besides, my mom really only cooks a couple of times a week, other than that we make it our selves or eat out.

    Thanks for your help!
