Im under the impression that its not safe to go pickin for mushrooms unless you know which ones are the right ones. And Id figure someone who knows that would know the proper conditions, too.

I believe the right fruiting conditions for mushrooms is about 70-74 Fahrenheit.

Also, just because it has rained a lot and is now sunny doesn't really mean a whole lot...there actually has to be an actual mycelial body present or at least spores to produce said body, which then needs proper access to nutrition etc. before it grows mushrooms. Different mushroom strains have different temperature tolerance ranges, some can fruit if even if it's 50 or so degrees, others are more tolerant to tropical conditions.

    Definitely.
Ideal mushroom fruiting conditions need heat, not sunligt. It can be sunny in winter but still -20.

some parts of the gulf coast will fruit all year, including during winter, but right now would be a bad time to look for a new spot. unless you already know where cubes grow during prime season, your chances of finding a field in winter that has cubes are slim. also the mushrooms will not fruit during winter if the temperature ever drops below 50. you might want to look at the weather history for your area before you go looking, and only right next to the coast would be ideal. this dude found cubes in texas a couple winters ago:
