i'm trying to get more exposed to good punk bands, and i hate the process of searching for bands and listening to each song if you know what i mean. i figure the best way to see what i like is to get a list from people familiar with the genre of songs that they like, so if you guys could do this for me.. make a list of 10 good punk songs and post them here. i plan on downloading them and seeing what i like best. try to make it a little diverse if possible? thanks guys!

Ok, here's a pretty diverse list of songs you probably haven't heard. They're pretty obscure, some of them, so I'll tell you where you can search for them if I know.

    "Revolt" - the Nymphs (myspace.com)
    "Garbadge Man" - Hole
"Fun in Funeral" - the Objex (garageband.com)
"Everything's Goin' On" - Dead Meadow (Youtube or Myspace)
"Botus" - Pagoda (Youtube or myspace)
"Over the Edge" - Wipers (youtube or myspace)
"Catholic Block" - Sonic Youth (not sure)
    "Something against you" - Pixies
"Hole of Deception" - Mr. Pissy (Contact the band's Last.fm account)
    "Get into Yours" - Mudhoney
    "Shove" - L7
    "Nub" - Jesus Lizard
    "Secret Admirer" - Pissed Jeans
    "Mrs. Jones" Hole
    "Glow" Ednaswap

By the way, congrats on getting into punk, it's some awesome music, just make sure you don't get suckered into the pop-Hot Topic-punk crap like Good Charlotte and shit like that... or you could get beat up by real punx like me ;-)

I've never listened to either of them seriously, but Social Distortion didn't leave much of an impression on me from what I've heard

Social Distortion isn't punk. Alternative yes. And I don't think Mike Ness was ever thinking when he wore eyeliner.
