haha. soon SWIM will attempt to grow shrooms for the first time. using the PF-TeK method. SWIM has everything needed to do said process. SWIM was looking into buying the spore syringe needed to innoculate about 12 mason jars worth. SWIM went to a website, expecting not too many options. SWIM found a list of what had to be a hundred different strains. SWIM has no idea what to get. anything for a begginer? SWIM has never done this before.

strains are all about personal preference. i don't know why but i love thai and cambodians the most. seem to grow fairly fast and are very potent. btw. pf tek sucks. with the same amount of space, same amount of money, and half the hassle you could be growing ounces.

any other methods you suggest SWIM to use? rememer s/he is a first timer, and it needs to be relatively small.

I fully agree with Omacatl, Thai strains are pretty unbelievable at times, for the most part strains are very similar (remember they are all the same species, Cubensis, so differences are subtle) but there is just something about the thai strains...
i hadn't been born in 1978... haha get with the program? i started researching this last week. every time i try to find a different cultivation method i end up looking at PF-TeK... or some other small scale cake method.
wait.... this sounds dumb. but couldn't you just use the PF method, but instead of placing the cakes on a bed of perm, couldn't you put it on a bed of brown rice flower & vermiculite on top of perm? perm still keeps it humid, and the brown rice flower/verm allows it to grow outwards from the individual cake? thus giving a much larger flush?
Cubes are cubes are cubes man, Most strain names mean no difference. Unless of course you taking something like Penis Envy, then they will be different. But things like potency are genetic. A spore syringe contains millions of spores, so you could get some weak spores that colonize, or some more potent ones. And as for PF cakes..well they're definitely less effective than other methods. But its a good place to learn your cultivation and sanitary technique.
i still can't get past the name but yea, i was actually looking at them... :-O how are they different? i mean people described them more as a steady experience, not in waves like most shrooms... i also heard they were a bit more on the intermediate scale in terms of growing, so i'll probably just stick with thai or norm. jesus christ, i can't find any good websites for my life.. :0 everything just keeps cycling down to the PF-Tek, over and over and over again... lol.... or a large scale grow with like bags of hay... neither what i want.
What I meant was that PE will look completely different, I have no idea if you will trip differently on PE..
Yo Nero check out the site that you linked to earlier. fungifun.org check out the grains tek pretty sure that is what you are looking for. Better yeilds than PF tek but not as complex as bulk grows.
listen to this dude^^^ a casing made with some grains(rye, wild bird seed, popcorn ect) or a nice monotub is what you need to be going for.
