Jen - because the chemicals in THC mimic the effect of your cannabinoid receptors, which are the chemicals in your body that maintain appetite. You know how food also tastes awesome when you're starving? Same thing. Broony - that, on the other hand, is just because you're drunk.
you're on the right track, but the way you worded it makes your statement completely wrong. First of all Its not the chemicals in the THC, its the THC, and other chemicals in the weed. They don't mimic the effects of the cannabinoid receptors, they mimic the effects of the endocannabioids themselves. The cannabinoids from the smoked weed overload the cannabinoid receptors in your hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is responsible for controlling your apatite, among other things. normally the nerves in our stomach, and other places would send a signal to your hypothalamus, in the form of released endocannabinoids, telling you its time to eat. The cannabinoids from the smoked weed bypass the need for your stomach to send the signal, and they just go right a head a nestle into to the cannabinoid receptors in the hypothalamus, making you hungry. I'm not exactly sure why weed makes food taste better, or if it even does at all. al kapwn's hypothesis makes sense, your hungry, so you enjoy what you eat. It could also be something to do with how the cannabinoids react with your cerebellum, which is the part of the brain responsible for taste.
THC Heightens your senses generally. So maybe Food does not taste better just tastes stronger? Maybe something that tastes bad sober tastes worse high? Then again, it might just be the hunger thing. Your body believes it needs to eat as wonderfully described by Willy Wonka and makes it taste better to entice you to eat. Avocado is GREAT with pepper! How did I not discover this till just then? Seriously WOW!
Damn you, Willy! The minute I posted that I was like shit, someone is gonna come along and point out that I hopelessly fucked up all the details. Seriously, thanks for explaining that more lucidly and correctly than I did.
